Rep. Ralph Hall (R-Texas) became the oldest lawmaker to ever serve in the House of Representatives on Tuesday.

Hall, 89, beat out Rep. Charles Manly Stedman (D-N.C.), the previous record holder, who was 89 years, 7 months and 25 days old in Sept. 1930 when he died. all was elected to his 17th term in Congress in November. Hall recently said he might even run for reelection again. "I’m just an old guy — lived pretty clean," Hall said according to The Associated Press. “I have no ailments. I don’t hurt anywhere. I may run again. I’ll just wait and see."

Hall was first elected to serve in the House when he was 57. Before becoming a member of the House of Representatives, Hall had served Texas's state government, was in the Navy during World War II, and helped found a bank in Rockwall County, Texas.

Someday his district will be represented by someone at the bottom of seniority.

"Darling, I, can't get enough of your love babe
Oh no, babe"

Well, there's the problem right there.
Old fart has the female vote all locked up.
19th Amendment has been nothing but trouble.

Originally a Democrat, Hall only switched to the Republicans in 2004.

He has Sam Rayburn's old seat. Besides Rayburn and Hall only one other Congressman was elected by the district in the last 100 years.

Some former Congressmen still alive are even older than Hall: Harry Flood Byrd, Jr, Mario Biaggi, William Scranton, John Anderson, Lindy Boggs, Bruce Alger, Otis Pike, Don Edwards, Peter Peyser to name a few.

I always had the impression that John Quincy Adams was in the House into his 90s. Actually he died at 80. His father lived to 90.

Christopher Lee is in the new Hobbit movie, and appears to still be going strong at 90.

He was in the new “Dark Shadows” movie this past year; but in a short scene, a mostly cameo role!

When we lived in Collin County, Texas, Ralph Hall was my House rep. He may be an old incumbent, but his conservative voting record is hard to beat. I voted for him every time he ran for re-election during those years.

I’m a little surprised a House member has never passed 90, I guess it’s the only Senate with all the very ancient people. Looks like Hall is gonna make it.

If I were writing a constitution I’d consider mandatory retirement at 80 for all elected officials, ageist though it is. Term limits could make that moot for Congress, for judges though....
