Obama to Congress: The Time For Immediate Action on Fiscal Cliff is Now
Townhall.com ^ | December 28, 2012 | Leah Barkoukis

So how did the last-ditch fiscal cliff meeting go this afternoon? Not great. President Obama again put forth the scaled-back version of the proposal he pitched last week.

A source familiar with the meeting told CNBC that Obama was not making a new offer; just laying out what he thinks can pass the House and Senate. That includes keeping the tax cut for those making up to $250,000 and an extension of unemployment insurance for 2 million people. He will then ask the participants what they are willing to support, and if they don't have a counterproposal that can pass the House and the Senate he will ask for an up or down vote.

President Obama held a brief press conference after the talks, calling the meeting “good and constructive” and that he’s “modestly optimistic” that an agreement may still be able to be reached in time. One of the points he highlighted during the presser was that he’ll let Sens. Reid and McConnell try to reach a deal on the income threshold for tax hikes but if they don’t reach an agreement, the president said he will “urge Senator Reid to bring to the floor a basic package for an up or down vote – one that protects the middle class from an income tax hike, extends the vital lifeline of unemployment insurance to 2 million Americans looking for a job and lays the groundwork for future cooperation on more economic growth and deficit reduction.”

Senate leaders are in last-minute bipartisan ‘cliff’ talks with the White House this evening.

What Obama is counting on is for the Republicans in the House to fold and vote in a tax increase for the job creators. If he's successful, not only will the media pound away on Republicans as being hypocritical, but they will also blame Republicans for the certain future result of such tax increases, an even worse economy.

Why is there no strong voice representing the Republican Party and going after these delusional beliefs of the Socialists? Taxing job creators will do nothing to pay down the deficit, instead accomplishing the opposite. And why is no one speaking to the huge tax increase already scheduled on the "Middle Class" in the form of Obamacare?

The best hand the Republican Party has as a Party and for the Country is to stand by Conservative principles and not vote for any tax increase.

If you haven’t been able to find a job in two years then you obviously don’t want or need a job.

Either that or the administration doesn't want you to find a job.

Which is it?

Why go to work at all. Just extend unemployment until they are 70 and then put them on Social Security.

That’s pretty much welfare instead of unemployment.

It’s what 53% of Americans want.

Some work is getting done?
“they” have done NO work for the last 4 years.

Cut his vacation short?
What better way to get to fly back to DC and not have to listen to the ‘little (ha) woman’.

Executive Order to spend money?
Thought Congress had to instigate/approve Federal spending.
Like joebama isn’t grossly overpaid now.

Why blame Boehner? The House put a budget up month ago. Harry Reid hasn’t put a budget up for 1300 days. Put the blame on him and the rats, not on Boehner

Some work is getting done?

No, no, no. You misconstrued my statement. All the "work" they do is to line their own wallets. Obama rushed back for this executive order to raise the pay of his buddies. They're supposed to work for the public; the truth is they work for themselves. Of course they do no work for us, none whatsoever in the last 4 years. But they work hard to get perks, cover their tracks and mislead the idiots who vote them back into office. Time for a revolution to throw them out.

Well, of course they are to blame. But Boehner has been a surrender monkey to the Rats for far too long. Removing the conservatives from fiscal committeeships, helping craft the bill to set up a Secret Committee to deal with the fiscal mess, stating Obamacare is now the law of the land instead of stating he would fight it by cutting off funding to the bill, etc.

Boehner is a loser and MUST go!!

Well the House put up a budget month ago. That arrogant pos occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave and the rats ignored it. Reid hasn't put one up in over 1300 days.

No I don't think you are joking. He'll do the same thing he did during the health care debacle. It's either his way or the highway

Don’t put the blame on Boehner. Put it were it belongs. Harry Reid and the Senate. The House put a budget up month ago, Reid hasn’t put one up in over 1300 days.

Listen, you two-bit, phony, dictator!

Your budget proposals have been so bad, they haven’t received a single vote in the Senate, and the Senate, for it’s part, hasn’t passed a budget in over 3 years.

So, who the hell do you think you are to come strolling in from another of your many multi-million dollar vacations, dictating to Congress, as to what they “must do”?

The Congress has passed multiple budgets, while you and your irresponsible Senate, have sat back, whining to Congress to have them bring you another rock.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
Didn’t really misconstrue....I definitely agree and also last sentence should be what happens prior to a mass sentencing for the whole lot of them....

D’s + R’s + I’s + L’s = CROOKS/FELONS....

Leavenworth isn’t big enough for all of them, maybe we need our own “Devils Island” and let them have at EACH OTHER.

Let the rest of the dissidents or those NOT HAPPY here go back to their ‘supposed home of origin’, expense paid, one way tickets...President Monroe had the right idea, just didn’t get it carried out, up to us to include all the others, not matter what Race, Creed or Religion and offer 1 way tickets....

“hasn’t passed a budget in over 3 years.” It’ll be 4 come January. A full term without a budget.

Run out the clock and then put the same proposal on the table hoping the Republicans will be in a panic to pass SOMETHING-ANYTHING. Perhaps the Democrats understand the RINO mindset.

The GOP has the absolute financial power - NOW USE IT. Your are screwed and blamed anyway - it cannot get any worse, what the clown has planned for destruction of the opposition party.

The GOP has the absolute financial power -

We would if we also had the majority in the Senate instead of only the House. The Congress consists of both the House and the Senate for your information.

I thought as a conservative you would know that

Why blame Boehner?

1) He and the House continued to fund the Fed Gov through Continuing Resolutions because there are no appropriations bills because the Senate refuses to pass the guidance of a BUDGET.

2) Round one for Boner ended in a horrible failure because he is a horrendous negotiator. Anyone remember the 1st CR after the 2010 GOP sweep? The GOP pledged to cut $100 BILLION when running for election - Boner comes out and brags about what a good deal he got during CR neg with the Won. In the end it was estimated to amount to $353 MILLION, not $38 BILLION LIKE HE TOLD THE SHEEPLE.

CBO: Budget deal cuts this fiscal year's deficit by just $353 million, not $38 billion touted
http://www.blogrunner.com/snapshot/D/2/3/cbo_budget_deal_cuts_this_fiscal_years_deficit_by_just_353_million_not_38_billion_touted/

There were NO CUTS - ONLY REDUCTIONS IN GROWTH IS CONSIDERED CUTS IN THE DISTRICT OF CORRUPTION.
