SANTA YNEZ, Calif. (AP)

Certainly they were unwise latinas in that this was all preventable if not for stupidity.
“If I am going down the highway and a dog, a duck or a brontasaurus are in the way they will get plowed over before I risk injuring another human being.”
I couldn’t agree more...
A sad story.
Often, when owners die trying to save their pets, the pets survive anyway. Every winter I hear a couple stories about someone who has drowned trying to save a dog who fell through the ice, but the dog eventually made it to safety.
You might want to yield to that brontosaurus, I've seen the results of a couple moose-strikes, and one with a steer...not pretty.
But if you do happen to sight one...be sure and let us know...maybe some pictures.
“Reflexes...”
Maybe; I hope you never pay the price for those reflexes. I completely creeped out my wife once when we were flying down the Garden State Parkway South here in NJ and the car in front of us lost control. We were in the middle lane, and the car ahead of us ending up facing us (but still moving in the same direction as us, with the wheels locked up). I checked my mirrors, blinked left, and passed them in the fast lane; I guess driving around here for too long I just didn’t want to deal with the inevitable traffic tie-up that results from somebody spinning their car around on a highway.
As we continued on I could see all three lanes come to a stop behind us; my wife was white as a sheet, and disturbed 1) that I hadn’t slammed on the brakes (which is a bad idea, like braking suddenly for animals - you might kill a person), and 2) that I hadn’t reacted at all as though anything unusual was happening. I’m not “calm, cool, and collected”; I just didn’t want to sit in traffic, and was actually annoyed that the other driver had almost messed up our afternoon.
That’s a shame; people don’t understand how fast cars are actually driving. I had to change a flat alongside the PA Turnpike years ago (I wasn’t going to wait for them to send a truck), and I tell you when you’re on the shoulder, and the flat’s on the driver’s side, you realize how fast those cars are moving.
I can think of many a dog juxtaposed against many a person" and weigh my preferences and the dog wins every time.
Think of it this way: we just don't agree.
154 (San Marcos Road) is a dangerous 2 lane road (like 166). It can be a good shortcut to Santa Barbara though and is unfortunately the only way to get to the deliciousness of Cold Springs Tavern.
Small dog? A pet carrier would have saved three lives...
Ban cars...er, dogs...er, stupid women....uh, casinos that are open at a quarter to midnight.
That’s what I’m thinking. Why do you take a dog to a casino?
That’s a really, REALLY late lunch!
I like to point out that if you just had one dog at a time in your life, you could probably have eight or nine dogs. So therefore, while you might really like your dog, it still only has the value of 1/8th of a person.
Think of this when you read somebody say something like, “If a cop shot my dog, I’d kill him!”, or some equally stupid thing. Because what they are really saying is not that they highly value their dog, but that they place human life on a par with that of a dog.
In practical terms, this is like offering to kill a human because they have *offended* you, by killing your dog.
And while there are some people you could hold in such contempt that you equate them with dogs, it should not be the vast majority of people. Because in doing so, you are lowering yourself to the level of a dog as well.
I’m thinking of that California family - son jumped in ocean to save dog caught by wave, mother and father jumped in after son, all three died, dog lived.
We just got a dog and I’m fond of her and prefer her company to that of some people, but I wouldn’t give my life for her and bereave my family, or put myself in danger that would put my family in danger.
“Why do you take a dog to a casino?”
So he can take a crap on the craps table???
Unintelligible post except that it is clearly criticism. Posted it to show that a lack of values and prioritization in life does lead to death sometimes.
No apologies. Never will. Right is right and wrong is wrong. No one wants to hear that they are doing wrong anymore. Wrong leads to death. Nothing will change that.
And, something else. I am sick and tired of people making excuses for people doing stupid stuff and endangering themselves, others and the nation. I have absolutely no mercy for them or critics at all.
Sooner or later, everyone has to sit down to a banquet of consequences.
Those are your values. Mine differ.
Lack of values made these mistakes happen?
You must not make mistakes, I suppose.
I have never before exchanged posts with God. Prouder I could not be.
I was in Santa Ynez over Thanksgiving and actually played some Blackjack in that Casino. That particular highway is extremely dangerous. I can’t imagine how the dog got out of the car and why those women went chasing after it. Suicide mission.
As for the Casino, it’s more like a resort than anything else. Very nice place.
You don't believe their is a values issue in this story? Really?
