Abilene Police have released the following information about a fatal shooting this morning.
"On 12-25-12 at 2014 hrs, APD responded to a disturbance call in the 1000 block of Minda Lane. Upon arrival, responding officers contacted Lawanda Taylor. She reported her estranged ex-boyfriend, Earnest Gonzales, came to the residence and attempted to gain entry by kicking a side door. Gonzales fled the scene after he discovered Taylor called the police.
"On 12-26-12 at 0209 hrs, Gonzales returned to the residence and gained entry to the house by forcing open the front door, causing considerable damage. Gonzales entered the residence and assaulted Taylor. Also present in the house at the time of the assault was a 16 year old and a newborn child (both are children of Taylor).
"During the assault, Taylor retrieved a .380 handgun (which she was in legal possession of) and fired one shot, striking Gonzales in the left side.
"Gonzales left the residence and was located by responding patrol officers in the front yard of the residence. Gonzales was transported by ambulance to Hendrick Medical Center where he succumbed to his wound. Gonzales body was transported the Tarrant County Medical Examiners Office in conjunction with an autopsy order issued by J.P. Deatherage.
"Counselors from the Regional Victim Crisis Center and advocates from The NOAH project responded to the scene and assisted the victim.
"This case will be presented to a Taylor County Grand Jury for review. We do not expect any criminal charges to be filed in this case."
There is a more recent article that goes on to say the former boyfriend had a violent criminal record.
Is that not a bit redundant and deja-vu and all over again repetitious?
Copspeak and mediaspeak are one and the same when delivering these stories.
There is no one more dangerous to a child than mama’s boyfriend.
Years ago I knew of a judge who had enough of repeat domestic violence victims appearing before him, so he started to issue bench orders requiring that they be armed in public. He also issued them documents to show to police if they questioned her being armed.
And he said if they could not afford to buy their own gun and ammo, he would pay for it. When the police found out about it, they took up a collection to buy guns for these women as well.
The judge proudly noted that the number of repeat victims appearing before him dropped to zero, though no shooting was ever attributed to them.
Unfortunately, he retired long ago and his program was discontinued by his replacement.
If that judge had been in NC fifteen years ago, maybe my best friend and her unborn son would still be alive.
Yet another “family member” most likely to get shot by a gun in the house, and included in the Brady Bunch junk anti-gun stats.
Reading the comments after such articles is always educational and entertaining. In this particular case, I’m surprised by the number of anti-gun comments in a west Texas newspaper. I guess I shouldn’t be since I see it plenty in the Tulsa paper forums where I comment.
This is one of the most important reason for the framework of the 2nd amendment .
Take away the gun and who would survive?
Take the recent case in NJ. Girlfriend
stalker take officers gun in police station and shoots 3 officers before being killed. Happy ending.
Officers swore oath to protect public and were not killed.
If the guy didn’t grab the gun or wasn’t successful , the ex girlfriend
would most definitely ended up dead near future.
Judge giving out restraining orders are same as the judge ordering child molestors to babysit children and behave.
Both work on the honor system.
Forgot to add.
What are the odds of this woman participating in the gun buy back program?
Sadly, we do have a number of such people among us here. One is a Facebook friend of mine, just down the street a bit. Whenever she posts some anti-gun silliness, I want to point out that she is safe living alone in her very nice house *because* she is in the middle of a sea of gun owners, and violent criminals know what would happen to them here. In this case, though I have to keep it mild- my child and her grandchildren are extremely close.
Probably due to Abilene Christian and McMurray University being there.
Based on what I know about Abilene Christian, you’d be a pretty odd duck to either attend or work there if you weren’t pretty conservative. I know nothing about McMurray, though.
I attended ACU for a very short time. Never again. They were the odd ducks.
Just like "Rule .303."
