Reid, McConnell to Seek Budget Compromise Plan

Senate leaders Harry Reid and Mitch McConnell agreed Friday to work through the weekend to develop a possible fiscal-cliff plan they hope could pass in both chambers of Congress before Dec. 31.

The eleventh-hour effort was the upshot of an hour-long discussion at the White House among congressional leaders and President Obama. Speaker John Boehner told the group that the House, which is scheduled to return to work Sunday night, will act only after the Senate makes the next move.

Should Congress fail to ratify legislation in time for Obama to sign it before midnight Monday, more than $500 billion in automatic spending cuts and tax increases will take effect New Year’s Day.

In the final days of the year, the White House and lawmakers are searching for an agreement that can be short-term -- a measure that could become law for possibly two or three months -- followed by new budgetary battles in the 113th Congress.

Other than the title, that's the only mention of a budget.

What a sick farce.

The American Republic has entered the final stages of its decline.

Soon it will exist only in name.

If we can encourage the House TEA Party caucus to stand firm Obama will have to give in and not allow tax increases on ANYBODY!

Otherwise the GOP is finished and may take the conservative movement with it—Obama’s master plan.

Damn! I wish Boehner would get a fake concussion like Hillary and disappear for a week or two as well.

We might as well get used to it. Every three months the ‘RATS will be out there blaming the GOOBers for the potential destruction of the nanny state if they don’t give the Kenyan boy authority to spend more of our grandchildren’s future. The GOOBers will pee their pants and give the communists whatever they want. Some kneejerk, half-assed bill will be passed and our grandchildren’s future will become even more bleak. Then, the process will begin all over again.

There is no opposition party. There is only a clueless party.
There is no Constitution. There is only an executive branch.
There are no laws. There are only men.

This will not change any time soon.

So in 2013 we will have less R in house and senate. So let’s defer to then?

Worst, I thought a 2 yr plan was bad.. 3 month plans so no one know what’s going on?

I would say that governing in such a way that no one knows what’s going on is a key part of their plan. We’re back to smoky back rooms and secret deals. The media will smile and nod and indicate that this is how government is supposed to work. It’s efficient and gets the trains running on time.

Party out of power usually picks up seats in the off year election, so the GOP doesn’t really have anything to fear in standing firm.

Actually, I’m sure we’ll have more in the Senate, and I think the same or more in the House.

And I know there will be some improvements. Wait till our new Senator from Texas gets there. We have traded a worthless Rino for a real Tea Party fire eater.

No way that would happen even if republicans stand firm. Obama is happy to accept new taxes on everyone because he needs the revenue and doesn’t care about economic growth. Obama will win this skirmish.

According to Forbes, KY is one of the “Death Spiral” states. Expecting lucrative government “programs” in KY as part of the compromise.

the House... will act only after the Senate makes the next move...

Wrong direction constitutionally and politically...

Constitutionally: Any agreement should originate in House sub-committees from the ground (ie, "the people") up.

Politically: The direction proffered by Boehner is from 'Rats to 'Repubs; again, he is not being part of the solution, only continuing the problem.

Kabuki Dance: “In common English usage, a kabuki dance, also kabuki play, is an activity or drama carried out in real life in a predictable or stylized fashion, reminiscent of the Kabuki style of Japanese stage play.”
