Actually, South Africa was originally populated by whites. When the British first colonized the area, it was uninhabited. They were the original settlers.

I have a business acquaintance who is South African born who, upon getting his American citizenship while in college his junior year, promptly marched into the financial aid office and filled out the forms for an African-American scholarship. And got a full ride his senior year.
Apparently the black admin in the financial aid office from whom he got the initial application was not amused.
