PEARISBURG -- Giles County schools will be closed Wednesday to give law enforcement officials an opportunity to brief teachers and school administration about a website that mentions Narrows schools in a discussion about the Sandy Hook Elementary shootings in Newtown, Conn.

Last time I was in Pearisburg it was a town where everyone pretty much knew everyone. Narrows up the road I suspect more so. I used to have close family ties living in Pearisburg, Riplemead, and Blacksburg. My first wife spent part of her childhood in Ripplemead near Pearisburg. I think if a stranger walked in to school the stranger would be noticed. These are fairly small towns. Pearisburg population is roughly about 2700 and Narrows is about 2000. These towns are off the beaten path.
