Alaska is already planning an extension to Delta where they could hook together if built.

But I doubt the miles of travel would be a significant cost advantage over the rail/barge/rail done from Washington to South Central.

A rail line from Delta Junction on through Canada would be a major tourist draw. Pretty rough country though, whatever they think it will cost to build will never be what it actually costs to build, its some seriously bad country for rail, too much permafrost, bogs, peat and of course grades.

Thanks! I haven’t heard of this project. Even if it doesn’t reduce freight costs I believe any infrastructure in a AK would be a huge benefit. Maybe one day we can be just like a lower 48 state with roads and bridges. Naaaah, that would ruin the largest playground in the US (/sarcasm) and give us control over our own destiny.
