Gannett requested to investigate ethics of anti-gun personnel
Examiner ^ | 1/2/13 | David codrea

Posted on 01/03/2013 8:57:48 AM PST by Nachum

A request to investigate violations is being filed this morning with the Chief Ethics Officer of Gannet, the media giant that owns The Journal News, which published gun permit holders' names and addresses, and the Des Moines Register, which published Donald Kaul's call for gun owners to be killed.

Gannett's Ethics Policy is unequivocally stated:

“To affect change for the good in the communities we serve, to make life better for the people who trust us to know them and do right by them.”

"Every day, all of us at Gannett are given the rare and sacred opportunity to affect change for the good in the communities we serve, to make life better for the people who trust us to know them and do right by them," Gannett CEO and President Gracia C. Martore claims in her policy introduction. "We have this opportunity because people trust the integrity of our actions and know we have the courage and conviction to do what must be done. We know that this trust is earned every day."

Wow. Talk about an EGO. Just give us the plain news and we'll all be better off.

Just a quick search seems to indicate the person to contact is:
Barbara W. Wall
Wall earned her B.A. and J.D. from the University of Virginia. She and her husband Chris have two children, a son, Read, and a daughter, Louisa. Their hobbies include hiking and last year they all climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro.
Barbara can be reached at 703-854-6951 according to zoominfo.com
I am sure some other enterprising person will have the address and picture of her home

Yes!

Let's shift our scorn from the Donald Kaul peons of the world to the publishers, owners, investors, editors, and journalists who publish their lies and advocacies for violence and tyranny.

sacred opportunity to affect change for the good in the communities we serve

Shouldn't that be effect instead of affect?

I find it interesting that they believe that their goal is "change" rather than providing unbaised information so that a well informed electorate can make the decisions.

"Affect" isn't a typo on the Examiner website. That's how it appears in Gannett Ethics Policy

The policy also states:

In addition, directors and employees of the Company should inform senior management if they learn that information in any such filing or communication was untrue or misleading at the time such filing or communication was made or if they have information that would affect any such filings or communications to be made in the future.

Maybe not! Maybe they want to “affect” change since they are incapable of “effecting” change. For example, someone “effects” change by advocating for a Voter ID law and thus providing a forum for discuaaion. This rag “affects” change by demonizing the advocates and pointing out how racist the Voter ID law is and thus corrupting the whole process.

From the Register website "Comments" section:
Guidelines: You share in the desmoinesregister.com community, so please keep your comments smart and civil. Don't attack other readers personally, and keep your language decent.
Apparently commenters have to be "civil", but writers are free to advocate violent murder.

Recall the outrage when James Byrd was dragged to death. The Editor of the Register apparently has no problem with it here.

Isn’t the New York paper that published the interactive map of gun owners also a Ganett paper? Doesn’t that show a pattern

Actually, it should be both: "affect the changes we're helping to effect."

They want to help effect change; and they want to have their agenda have an affect on the direction of the change effected.

Reminds me of a passage from Canticle for Leibowitz: the prideful cat that studied ornithology, when only called to be an ornithophage: Gannet is only called to report the news, but pridefully tries to shape and exploit the news.
