Illinois Senate Committee Bans Semiautomatic Assault Weapons and High-Capacity Clips

An Illinois Senate Committee banned semiautomatic assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition clips. KMOV reported

An Illinois Senate committee, in a party-line vote, has approved restrictions on semiautomatic assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition clips.

One measure would ban the sale of semiautomatic handguns and rifles. People who currently own such weapons could keep them, but would have to register them.

The second proposal would limit ammunition magazines to 10 or fewer rounds. Sen. Dan Kotowski, the bill’s sponsor, says he wants to concentrate on the high-capacity magazines because they make assault weapons more lethal.

Democrats are pushing the gun restrictions in the wake of the school massacre in Connecticut last month.

Syverson: ‘Assault weapons ban will not deter crime’

{6FD168B8-C34B-4399-8E39-7373F7600882}State Sen. Dave Syverson (R-Rockford) offered the following comments after a proposed ban on handguns and semi-automatic long guns began working its way through the Illinois Senate yesterday.

“Hundreds of northern Illinois constituents have contacted my office about the proposal, which would ban literally every type of firearm except single-shot arms and double-barreled shotguns. I reaffirm my stance on the Second Amendment: I support sportsmen, gun owners, and law abiding citizen’s basic right of self-protection,” Syverson said. “Sadly, this legislation does not address the real societal problems that have been magnified by the recent mass shootings in Colorado or Connecticut.”

“One measure would ban the sale of semiautomatic handguns and rifles.”

It is my understanding a semi-automatic weapon is one that shoots one bullet at a time with each pull on the trigger.

That is every handgun and rifle and shotgun I have. I pull the trigger and one bullet fires each time I pull it.

Doesn’t that outlaw every gun in Illinois?

“Clip” vs “magazine”....you could only laugh if lawmakers left a technical loophole like that.

someone posted a youtube video of a woman testifying to congress. Shumer is listening indifferently and with obvious disdain.

At 4:44 she says “ the second amendment is about protectecting US from YOU” you being politicians. I paraphrase.

This committee has utterly failed to represent the people. Obviously their terms are way too long.

I understand...Like having a right to freely walk down the street, one not need to surrender information to do so. I personally think millions have been hoodwinked.

Yes.

I suppose my lever action 30-30 would be ok, but that is not a useful weapon for self defense.

The bullets can easily pierce walls, I do not want to shoot into my neighbors house by accident.

But regardless, I am not going to listen to any of these criminal politicians.

I’ve committed no crime, I am not a servant of politicians.

They can go to Hell.

The communist party is here.

There is no other party.

The only thing that stands between them is total domination is us and our guns.

That’s it.

The showdown has come.

“Illinois is loaded with major firearms manufacturers.”

They can come to WI, our state has a pretty good concealed carry law and no registration is required. If I were an IL gun owner, I would warehouse any extra guns in WI. Otherwise, if you keep your guns in IL, you need to find a safe place to hide them.

Maybe we should booby trap airguns for the gun grabbers.

It's tough to care whatever follows a claim like this.
A senate committee banned something? I don't think so.

> “Does this dum bass not realize that most deaths occur in the first 10 rounds from such magazines?”

The obvious solution is to ban the first 10 rounds from any magazine. (is /sarc necessary?)

Isn’t it amazing how we look to the states to protect us from the federal government, then turn around and look to the federal government to protect us from the states.

What a world.

***I suppose my lever action 30-30 would be ok,***

Don’t bet on it. Do you know that the first proposed California ban on “assault rifles” also included a ban on lever action rifles.

Neal Knox is the one who exposed this years go.

I guess these idiots never heard of "Jungle Style" (tape two clips together), like this Ethiopian soldier did with his carbine in the Korean War.

This isn’t just about “assault rifles” with high capacity magazines. This legislation includes all semi-auto rifles, shotguns and handguns of every caliber including .22s. It also includes pump action rifles and shotguns regardless of magazine capacities. It also includes draconian mental health care issues which pretty much includes treatment of anything.

These people want all guns banned they will try what ever they can to do it. We need to continue to fight and fight hard. We can’t even give in an inch.

“As other posters have said, if its time to hide ‘em, its time to use ‘em.”

But let’s be strategic. Suppose the SWAT team come to your door. Sure, you can go down and be the martyr. Inevitably, the martyr will be spun as the devil by the Leftist media which will be used against us. Instead of this, we need to alert other patriots when such a raid occurs. They will need to be there to record the event for public consumption and identify the police, and government thug participants involved. Then at a later date, these individuals (police and government thugs) can be targeted for retribution. Retribution could include anything from hacking, ID theft, kidnapping, and execution.

I think that the Leftists are just waiting for an incident, a Reichstag event, that can be spun their way.
