Debate Begins Early Over Bill To Disclose State [Connecticut] Handgun Owners' Names, Addresses

The names and addresses of about 170,000 handgun permit holders in Connecticut, now kept confidential by law, could be made public under a proposed bill that pits gun owners against would-be reformers in the aftermath of the Dec. 14 Newtown school massacre.

The bill, introduced by Rep. Stephen D. Dargan, D-West Haven, co-chairman of the legislature's public safety committee, would make public the names and addresses of permit holders under Connecticut's Freedom of Information Act — and would reverse lawmakers' decision to protect that personal information from disclosure nearly two decades ago.

How about publishing car owner names and license plate numbers. Car drivers are bigger killers than guns.

There was a discussion on WOR-Radio a few minutes ago about this. A woman who has an order of protection against her ex-husband has moved three times in six years, and now her name and address have been published and apparently a google map of her house.

One of the show hosts asked if people on food stamps should have their names published eventually. Don’t we have the right to know who is on the public dole?

The people in Rockland and Westchester counties should put this paper out of business today.

Someone needs to publish the name and address of all the newspaper employees like the one in NY.

"Also criminals know where to go steal guns now."

That's OK - we usually leave all of our lights off even when we're home to encourage intruders....

What is this idiot’s alleged purpose for making this info. public? The only one he gave is that a parent might want to know if their child was visiting a gun-owner’s house. What stops a parent from merely asking? I can see no valid or good reason to release these records.

Frightening times.

I'm aware of that, thanks, mostly, to Jim Goldberg.

My point was, and it has more to do with being a woman, is that I *want* to keep my gun concealed, so some yahoo, doesn't try to take it away from me; it's a physical struggle I would most assuredly lose.

Right, what stops a parent from asking if there are guns at the other parent’s house?

And what about scissors, bats, chainsaws, ginsu knives, heavy wrenches, etc?

Why, there are scissors and bats at schools. And kickballs, and locker doors. You could poke someone’s eye out with a piece of chalk or a crayon. The horrors!!!!

The politicians-—ALL POLITICIANS—need to feel the heat from this insanity.

Because they will push, push, push on this.

Especially on the women. Why do you think Gabby Giffords is in Conn. today? What does she have to do with anything?

The lesson of Gabby Giffords is that you need to lock up crazy liberals. As in Colorado. As in Newtown.

If I lost my kid at Newtown, why would I want to talk to her?

The Democrats did not even wait until the bodies of those children were even in the funeral homes before they started making hay about this.

And it was their own policies—thanks, idiot Biden—that caused these kids to be like sitting ducks.

Spit.

>>Car drivers are bigger killers than guns.<<

...car fatalities, and let's not forget, medical negligence kills up to 98,000 people every year in the United States.

You're right.

Also, it's meant to intimidate gun owners.

We don’t disagree. Liberals think banning guns or certain ammo will fix the problem of mass shootings. They will stop at nothing unless they meet major resistance.

They do not understand logical arguments surrounding any discussion on freedom. I have tried. They simply must be stopped from eroding our freedoms.

Connecticut's GUN SEIZURE LAW has done nothing to stem the slaughter of innocent citizens. Let's ask Thomas Belluci

Something missing in this *paranoia* discussion is the fact the governor has limited funding to mental health agencies, therefore restricting help to those in need; and felons have been released early to save $$$ on prison costs/ and relieve overcrowding. Nice.

The climate here in CT is palpable. It’s disgusting.

As we all know, *we could substantially reduce gun crime by simply enforcing our present laws. If the resources were committed to convict and incarcerate every felon caught illegally possessing a gun, many dangerous felons would be incapacitated and others would learn to eschew guns. But we as a society are not willing to commit the billions of dollars that would be required*....least of all, from our governor who has put us in to unrecoverable debt.
