When Fr. Jenkins is the President of Notre Dame, acting in his capacity as such, his personal politics are not the issue. Jenkins gave the honorary degree to Obama on behalf of the school, not on behalf of himself. It is ludicrous to assert that honoring was Jenkins's act as opposed to Notre Dame's act.
Go, Crimson Tide! No, Irish!

As a Navy alum and a Southerner, I say: “Crush the Mick Mackerel Snappers!”

OK, I'll bite....just because Fr. Jenkins did what he did doesn't mean all the CSCs agreed. ND has a history of inviting presidents to its commencement ceremonies. It also doesn't mean all the alums agreed with Fr. Jenkins. We alums on the other side withheld money and made a stink. Still didn't change anything from that graduation.
That said, the place is still very Catholic. Don't tell me you know one way or the other unless you have gone there or have a son, daughter, relative or friend that attends. At the same time, there are factions that push to get their way in making the place more and more secular. It is a battle that rages, but the kids who attend are generally pretty decent, religious kids. Flame away.
Oh and Go Irish

This clown is a fan of ND, NE, and USC. I bet hes a cat person as well. I'm a fan of Occidental College and USC, from which I hold degrees, and of Cincinnati, from which I hold one unit. By the way, I'm also a cat person.

The ESPN-Notre Dame network is in overtime to pull off a ND win. Everything on ESPN is pro-Notre Dame. The writers and all are rooting for ND to win to stop the SEC. Notre Dame against the world. I don’t think so. It is the nation versus the SEC and Alabama in particular. Roll Tide.

I am very familiar with Notre Dame. A sister of mine graduated from there recently and I spent several weeks (over her four years there) visiting her. A nephew of mine is a freshman at ND now. Most of the kids there are tops and the cultural is still very Catholic — which is exactly why Notre Dame's giving an honorary degree to an ardent supporter of abortion was so scandalous. (”Lilies that fester smell far worse than weeds.”)
I know that many Notre Dame folks were heartsick when Obama was honored. Unfortunately, those folks lost that battle, which alone is an indication of how insidiously evil works. I watched a lovely young couple — seniors at ND, who were engaged to be married after graduation — appear on the Today Show and speak earnestly and thoughtfully about their pro-life work and how wrong it was of their school to honor Obama. When students such as these, who are fighting for what Notre Dame purports to believe, are overruled in favor of Obama, something has gone very wrong at the school so many people love.
Notre Dame the institution — not some people at ND and not Jenkins himself — gave an honorary degree to Obama, and the university as an institution has not repented of that. Until it does so, I say, “Go, Crimson Tide”!

When Father Jenkins pulled his stunt I sent him my ND hat and thirty silver dimes. Made somebody sign for them too.
