LOGANVILLE, Ga. —A woman hiding in her attic with children shot an intruder multiple times before fleeing to safety Friday.

The incident happened at a home on Henderson Ridge Lane in Loganville around 1 p.m. The woman was working in an upstairs office when she spotted a strange man outside a window, according to Walton County Sheriff Joe Chapman. He said she took her 9-year-old twins to a crawlspace before the man broke in using a crowbar.

But the man eventually found the family. "The perpetrator opens that door. Of course, at that time he's staring at her, her two children and a .38 revolver,"

Agree. never make offensive statements.
Two shots to chest and one to head, then do CPR until authorities arrive. Be very remorseful.

“failure drill” aka “Mozambique Drill”. I wonder why they changed the name?

I still prefer hollow points, no matter where the placement is.

It is hard to test because of the intended target. Meat.
I’ve read the same things too but I saw some good cavities
on ballistic gelatin although I haven’t shot it on gelatin.

I’m planning on a trip to the farm soon and will try it on a big picnic shoulder if its cheap.

I’d be interested in hearing how that goes.

I did a test on bulet penetration.Loaded the M193 bullet in a .22-250 @3650fsp.I used old John Deere plow shares for the target, very tough steel.THe M80 7.62 load when fired from my HK 91 would not penetrate, sometimes the plow share would be broken in half -but no penetration. The M193 bullet blew 3/8 inch diameter holes through the plowshare every time.Looked more like a hole made by a cutting torch

I load M855 bullets in a sabot @ 5000 fps in a .30WBY Mag(max load)
They punch a clean hole in 3/4 steel plate

In this case, that works perfectly. Good one!

Usually, it’s a generalization:

This instance, no way. Either the poster meant it or has inability to even rudimentarily state their sarcasm.

LOL. The poster you attacked has been around these parts a lot longer than you have. And you're the only one in the thread who didn't understand the sarcasm. When one is in a hole it's best to stop digging.

I’d guess there’s a chance he went down and she emptied the gun. I bet at least a couple of those that went through him are in lodged in the floor now. That’s why he was saying “quit shooting”. Imagine being shot in the head, laying on your back and looking up at a woman who is pumping rounds into you. :)

He got up and ran away after being shot six times.
If she stayed there and he realized she had no bullets left, he may have hurt her or the children.

All the more reason there should be no restrictions on ammo rounds.
Because she didn’t kill him, someone else may
pay the price when he’s released.

Agreed... mine is a bigger caliber and holds a few more rounds in the handle. But I applaud her. I think she clearly did what the training had taught her to do.

Thanks for the great “elder” advice, Kev.

By the way, you are not the only one on this post with original FR date in 2000. Guess we’ve followed a different path, some don’t like to rock the boat, some see it as a method to get a boat stuck in calm seas, to move one way or another.

In what condition was he “getting up” - you make it sound he just popped up and ran.

The woman was able to run away with her kids. He didn’t even manage to steal anything as intended. Very possibly this thug may have dragged himself out like a drunken fool and eventually made his way pathetically to his car.

He was pretty well disabled, no matter what the nit-picking here about how powerful her gun or ammo.

It's not "nit-picking." It's after-action analysis, and if you don't understand the value of it, you don't need to be offering opinion to those of us who do....

I’m aware of that, but it’s like many are never satisfied. If someone is without a firearm and is hurt/killed/robbed, FR is “tsk, tsk, would’ve been fine with a gun”. Then she HAS a gun and the end result was good, but it’s not good enough. “Should’ve killed him, should’ve used shotgun, should’ve had good rounds.” Geesh. Carping.

Nonsense. You're talking two very different levels of analysis; the first is like comparing football teams, the second is like comparing the line-ups of their various squads.

I haven't seen a single true rebuke of her on this entire thread, only suggestions of refinement that would have made her more effective and less the beneficiary of "luck."

Threads like this naturally attract people who have more than a passing interest in the subject matter. To them, results like this lady achieved cause legitimate questions about whether she exercised due-diligence with regard to firearms ownership.

If I might pose an analogy: it's like she learned just enough about fishing to catch one, but never bothered to find out what to do once the damn thing is on the hook....

LOL. I've made a note of your name. If at some point you start making sense I'll be sure to pay attention.
