An Atlanta mom took matters into her own hands on Friday when confronting an intruder. The unidentified woman hid with her 9-year-old twins in a crawlspace as a man broke into her house and began rummaging through it. The alleged burglar, Paul Ali Slater, eventually found the family’s hiding space, but not before finding himself staring down the barrel of a .38 revolver. The woman fired six shots, five of which hit Slater in the face and neck, but he managed to flee after the family ran to a neighbor’s house. Slater is expected to survive

This is an important lesson to everyone about “stopping power”. She was a very good shot to get five on him, hit him with all five, and in the right places. In a typical fight, you have to assume missing more than once, especially if they’re moving.
While arguments can go on all day about the best caliber, etc., these sorts of situations happen far too often, and many combat soldiers have tales of shooting the enemy and being shot themselves, and still having to “finish up” with knives. It happens to police a lot, especially if the perp is drunk or drug crazed, and feeling no pain.
Which is a great reason that if you need a handgun, you should pick up a knife as backup. Most of the time you won’t need a backup. But then, most of the time you won’t need to fire your gun, either.
A couple of lower torso shots into his bladder and his Johnson would have been nice.

Of note here though - consider the situation. If this guy was only there to "rob" the place, why did he keep looking until he found her and her kids - in the crawl space as I understand it? I think he intended something far, far worse. He wasn't looking for stuff, he was looking for people. Shame she didn't have a few more rounds, could've improved the world just that much more.
Five shots in the face and he survives? I’m guessing from now on he will be some kind of ugly!
