I wrote my commissioner the following:

Commissioner Davis,

I heard the news today on KLBJ that the Travis county commissioners are considering stopping gun shows in Travis county public facilities.

I write to urge you to stand against this idea as a discriminatory action against people who view firearms the same as others view crafts, quilting, or the equestrian sport.

The vast majority of gun show dealers are FFL licensed individuals who either do their business wholely at gun shows, or use gun shows to extend their brick and mortar business, and as such their sales are required by law to use the NICS (National Instant Criminal Background Check System) during a transaction.
Very few people will spend $100 or more for a table at a gun show to sell their $800 firearm.

By implementing such a ban you would only deprive legal dealers of exposure to their commodity, and legal buyers their opportunity to see and shop in a condensed environment (kind of like an outlet mall).
You would also deprive Travis county of quite a large sum of sale tax dollars.

And in the end, you would accomplish nothing towards gun crime since criminals who cannot pass a NICS check either steal their weapons or buy them on the street.

What you contemplate is wrong-headed and possibly illegal (discriminatory).

Now get out there and sic 'em!

So he seeks to deprive a sizable percentage of the population from using public facilities they help pay for.

That’s fine. Williamson County will take the gun show revenue. Travis county and Austin can concentrate on taxing patchouli and tie dye t-shirts.

The real issue is that the government elite want to control us, and we have millions of entitlement freaks, who don’t want to work and want to do lots of crack, and need cold hard money. Mental Health is also window dressing.

And who is Ed Scruggs and why is he important? Why not a quote from a citizen on the other side of the issue, too?

Travis county resident Ed Scruggs tells commissioners he thinks he’s not against gun shows,

What do gun shows have to do with what happened in Connecticut?
An evil sick person killed other human beings. In a school. Not at a gun show. Not because of a gun show.

A friend of mine sells real estate in Austin.

He said thee is a huge influx of people from California and New York moving into Austin every week. IIRC it’s something around 500/week.

Anyone who thought Austin was a pack of left wing freak shows before haven’t seen anything yet.

“...he thinks he’s not against gun shows...”

He thinks; therefore, he is a shitzleftist against 2nd Amendment and guns. Banned from public facilities, then a total ban, more progressive incrementalism. This has got to be stopped cold.

They might want to look at what happened when Houston. Tried the same thing a few years back. Bottom line: Courts all said no, Houston had to pay out millions to gun show organizers, state was not amused.

Texas has a state supremacy and exclusivity clause in the state constitution that says that only the state legislature may regulate anything having to do with arms. The locals cannot do squat about it.

Liberals love empty gestures.
Why don’t they ban selling guns to criminals?

This is a coordinated, liberal effort, folks!

The same effort is being attempted in Pennsylvania. A caller tried to corner our governor on a talk radio show with the same proposal (ban gun shows at state-owned facilites).

The left is working its magic behind the scenes.

I expect this will be on of President Obama’s list of unilateral proposals....banning gun shows at any facility that received federal funds.
