“My wife worked for Seafirst bank in Seattle that was bought by BA. She worked there 32 years. She was terminated along with 300 other employees in her department around the USA by a phone conference.”

I just had the same thing happen to me less than two weeks ago. I have 31 years in with a Fortune 50 company...our jobs are going off to India and we have to train our replacements.

America no longer has a market economy — it’s closer to corporate fascism. Big Business + Big Government = Screw the American worker (especially if you are an American white male over age 50).

Excuse me if I seem jaded...but I am, watching what has happened to America generally and myself specifically.

Welcome to the world of America’s current scapegoats - OWGs (Old White Guys). This is not going to end well.

My wife felt the same way. She watched as her boss and 10 loan officers were canned. Then she lost from 15 employees which her department had to support her boss and the 10, go from 15 to 4. They stayed that way for a couple of years and then she and 3 got canned. One guy, the only newer one, they kept. He was low paid. Of all the people that worked in her section and the other 7 same type offices around the country, all total, about 85% of them were over 55 years old and had worked that section for 15 or more years. My wife actually was able to finally after 4 months get on with a very small bank near our home in WA state, but it was in trouble. We left WA state soon after that and came back to Alabama. A year or so after we left, that bank was taken over by the Feds. Glad she quit and we came home. Worked out best for us.

You have my sympathy; while stories like yours should have sunk Obama, I believe there may have been an undercurrent of support for him from people in your position that just assumed (in this economy) that they wouldn’t be working again for years (if ever, and even then probably not at their prior wage levels). Too many people know too many other people that have been screwed in this “global economy”, and it just doesn’t make sense that Obama would win. I guess nobody believed Romney could save their jobs either (and they’d probably be right).

The most alarming consequence of this whole economy is the drop of the taxpayers’ birthrate to 0 (excluding “takers” such as cops, teachers, etc. - I generally don’t classify them as taxpayers).
