Actually, the top cop for the Sandy Hook shooting stated several times during several news briefings the primary weapon was the Bushmaster 5.56 rifle, and that the only handgun used was used by Lanza to end his own life. The weapon left inside the trunk of the car was a shotgun.

Someone doesn't know there weapons very well.
No matter how many times you repeat this, there are some who simply do not want what they don’t want to hear to be repeated. The coroner, police chief and first responders all said he used the bushmaster. He used the handgun to kill himself. That was not the Bushmaster in the trunk.
