(VA) GOP governor: Obama 'minister of God'

Prayer breakfast calls on president to act 'for the people'

Barack Obama is “an appointed minister of God to do what is good,” according to the prayer of Republican Gov. Bob McDonnell at the Commonwealth Prayer Breakfast held at the Richmond, Va., convention center.

The annual breakfast yesterday drew more than 1,000 people, including many of the state’s leaders. In addition to McDonnell, others offering prayers included Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli, House Speaker William Howell and state Democrat Chairwoman Charniele Herring.

McDonnell asked, during his prayer for Obama, that God give him “the wisdom of Solomon.”

The opening prayer was delivered by the mayor of Richmond, Dwight C. Jones, a Democrat. Jones, an African-American, sat next to Cuccinelli, a tea party favorite who currently is running for governor to replace McDonnell.

All those at the head table sat quietly as McDonnell prayed for Obama and his family. McDonnell prayed for Obama’s “wife Michelle and his two girls to have normalcy.” For Obama’s duties of office, the governor prayed that he would “get done what is right and just for the people.”

Speaking of all elected officials in the nation including himself, the governor asked God that “all do what is right in the eyes of God.”

It is not the first time McDonnell has advocated prayer for Obama.

Early in 2012, he told a Boy Scout troop to “pray for Mr. Obama, because he’s got a lot of hard decisions to make.”

That request came as the troop was on a tour of the

Not a Minister of God, but a minister from God, not to do good, but to do evil to this unrepentant Nation.

The governor was warning Obama of the heavy punishment that awaits an evil ruler.

You and I understand that but the Governor either got tang-tongueled or was catnapping during that particular Sunday sermon. It didn't come out right.

Rom 13:1 Let every soul be subject to the higher authorities. For there is no authority but of God; the authorities that exist are ordained by God.

>> obama has been put in place by God to do good <<

>> I absolutely agree. <<

>> Our leaders are selected by God <<

Wrong, wrong, and wrong. God would never put Obama in charge of America. God gives men free will to choose whom they want. It is up to us to use that gift wisely. The selection of Obama was a poor choice, made by flawed human beings. God ALLOWED it, but had nothing to do with it.

>> Leaders selected by God is an old Europe paradigm of monarchy by Divine Right. Wasn't such a ruler (king) also the head of the church? <<

Political Junkie Too nails it. The idea that "God" selected the person who governs the country is an outdated "divine right of Kings" European ideology that most Europeans don't even believe anymore. Historical figures "chosen by God" to be leaders are people like Moses and St. Peter (both of whom were capable of being sinners, and DID sin and make mistakes, thus the "warning" from God). Those leaders were chosen to lead people spiritually, as are all religious leaders who get a calling. God doesn't "appoint" secular government leaders, and He certainly wouldn't pick someone like Obama to run a country.

That's different than saying that the leaders are selected by God to be the leaders.

Traditionally, the “Powers that be” are supposed to be of God, and are supposed to be prayed for. But a time comes when it becomes evident that a political leader is a deliberate enemy of God.

Allah is not the God of Solomon. Allah is not God.

Usually, I pray for our political leaders. But for some time now, I’ve been praying for our country instead.

God knocked Saul off his horse and converted him from a persecutor of Christians to a saint. But the difference is that Saul thought he was obeying God and doing the right thing, until God taught him differently. Obama has deliberately chosen evil, of the worst kind, and it’s pretty hard to believe that he is going to change. Saul was open to God. Obama from all appearances is not.

He has been an active baby killer, a purveyor of sodomy, a destroyer of people’s jobs and lives, a Communist trouble-maker, and a supporter of Muslim terrorism all his life. And he knows what he is doing and takes great pride in it.

I think Barry’s reply to Bob O’Donnell’s prayer would go something like “there is no God but Allah”

You missed the part about praying for our leaders. Didn’t say pray for them if we like them. Kind of like the whole pray for you enemies thing. It gets easier with practice and we are commanded to do so

I have read that one of the slogans from the Revolutionary War by Patriots was “No king, but King Jesus.”

We have rejected God and look at our nation. All the problems discussed so frequently here at FR are just “symptoms” of the problem. Yes, symptoms of the problem - a sickness of the individual soul and the soul of the nation.

People wanted a messiah, a savior, an earthly king. And God, apparently, has allowed us as a nation to have the leadership we collectively deserve.

Can we save ourselves without God (and I don’t mean Allah or any other impostors from hell)? NO we can’t!!

15 “See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil, 16 in that I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commandments, His statutes, and His judgments, that you may live and multiply; and the Lord your God will bless you in the land which you go to possess. 17 But if your heart turns away so that you do not hear, and are drawn away, and worship other gods and serve them, 18 I announce to you today that you shall surely perish; you shall not prolong your days in the land which you cross over the Jordan to go in and possess. 19 I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live; 20 that you may love the Lord your God, that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him, for He is your life and the length of your days; and that you may dwell in the land which the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them.”
(Deuteronomy 30:15-20)

God has put obama in charge of America. Nothing happens outside of His will. God also gives countries and nations the leaders they deserve. Can you tell me with a straight face our nation does not deserve Obama? He has given us over to our depravity. We as a nation should be repenting and seeking Gods wisdom. Alas, we are too far gone for that. But the remnant of believers in this nation should pray on behalf of our country without ceasing. God can still work a miracle if it fits His plan

I agree.

As a consequence of parents not making sure their children are taught the constitutionally limited powers of the federal government, the corrupt media is able to get away with deifying people whom misguided voters then elect to the Oval Office to excercise powers way beyond the scope of constitutionally enumerated powers. It's as if God programmed us to worship something, evil trying to get us to worship anything but Jesus.

Yes. I can think of a number of the Psalms that are highly appropriate.

Love your enemies, something I need much practice with.

Somehow I think some context is missing on these quotes. I do believe the only hope Obama has left is that we pray for him to repent and change his ways.

People are missing the point. The verse means that a ruler is appointed by God to do what is good. But woe unto him if he doesn't do good. God will condemn a ruler whom He (God) has appointed, but who renounces God's authority by doing evil.

The governor was warning Obama of the heavy punishment that awaits an evil ruler.

Amen. Thank you for your post.

Christians are exhorted to pray for our leaders, whomever they may be, and for our enemies, whomever they may be.

You don't need to tell God how to do His job, but you do need to ask for what you need; and we certainly need leaders who submit to God, and enemies whose conscience leads them to recognize the true God, and that His judgment awaits them.

Think about it -- the best possible outcome is that "every knee shall bow."

All governmental authorities are ministers of God according to Romans 13:4 "For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil."

The caveat is that being responsible to God to minister to God, he is also RESPONSIBLE to God for abusing and/or neglecting his responsibility to subdue evil. God's judgment upon the abuser of god-given responsibility will be greater than upon those who never sought the privileges of national leadership.

So is he a minister of God? Yes, not because he deserves the title for his actions, but because he has been ordained to the position. Does he fulfill his ministry? God will judge. But I can tell you ahead of time that God will judge him severely for not protecting unborn babies...as well as for other things.
