The St. Louis based moving company United Van Lines is reporting that Illinois leads the nation alongside New Jersey with the nations highest move out rates.

United Van Lines spokeswoman, Melissa Sullivan told CBS affiliate KMOX in St. Louis, 60.5% of their business comes from individuals and businesses leaving Illinois. She also said, “Illinois has seen more outbound movement every year since” they have been keeping track, beginning in 1977.

Interesting thing I’ve seen comments on over the years. Call U-Haul and price a truck rental if you want to know if people are coming or going from a state. I bet you could rent one dirt cheap for a move *to* Illinois. All their inventory is leaving Illinois.

No kidding! I’ll bet that there is an “up charge” for outbound U-Hauls from IL to help pay for all the deadheading units having to be returned for a new load.

I remember turning in the U-Haul truck I’d rented in Los Angeles when we first moved to DFW. I got to chatting with the manager about the move, and at one point he informed me that the one way cost of that same truck from Dallas to L.A., was less than half of what I’d just paid. That was seven years ago.

Not surprised to see NJ at the top as well; the taxes here are from the “before-times” (when we had decent jobs and a middle class, which have been replaced by municipal employees as our middle class). Gov. Christie’s property tax cap is helping, but there are simply too many better states in which to do business.

I’ve been saying for years that NJ will end up being illegal aliens, the permanent welfare class, and the government workers required to “provide services” (though thousands of them have been let go in the last few years due to the aforementioned property tax cap). The problem with that model, as evidenced by southern CA and Detroit, is that those demographics don’t contribute anything at all to a tax base, and the potential costs to companies and taxpayers to continue feeding, housing, clothing, and schooling them are quite a deterrent.

Peoria has become a Little Chicago. Too many Amish migrated south and are wrecking it.

Of course not...

There was an old joke, two things that scared every Texan: A Yankee with a Uhaul heading south on 35 and a Catholic with a football on News Year Day.

Hopefully not before I get there. I’ve got a little gal waiting for me in Euless. I plan on closing the door behind me when I pass South of Amarillo later this month. And I’m never going North again. As gawd is mah’ witness.

Hey, SC is high on my list of places to move from NJ to! Wife has issues with fire ants though.

Living in SC and bugs kinda go hand in hand. Any reputable exterminator will be able to handle it for you.

I’ve lived here in the woods in Aiken County (near Augusta, GA) for 10 years. Fire ants have never been a problem.
