Some of the most common and most powerful prescription painkillers on the market will be restricted sharply in the emergency rooms at New York City’s 11 public hospitals, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg said Thursday in an effort to crack down on what he called a citywide and national epidemic of prescription drug abuse.

So while you (the law abiding citizen) is gritting their teeth in pain from after surgery pain.....across town some snooty lib sipping white wine has plenty of painkillers.
You’ll note his decree doesn’t affect him and his buddies only those who go to the public hospitals. Bet the rules wouldn’t be enforced if one his buds showed up for some reason at one of the covered ER’s
It’s an interesting conundrum. But you’re correct, the leftist default is to screw everybody, especially the innocent who will suffer the most, and let Gaea sort them out.
I would hope that if one has surgical pain, one would be getting these prescriptions from one’s surgeon and not an Emergency Room?

The first legit case denied proper medication needs to sue NYC and Hizzhonor for interfering with a legit doctor’s job, pain and literal suffering.
Note I said ‘legit. Not Blooming idiot’s call to legally make.

If the patients are getting their service and meds on the taxpayer dime, I'm all for restricting pain medications.
I restrict mine because I'm paying for it.

Bloombastard has obviously never been in serious pain, that S.O.B. I would say that causing suffering to people in pain is pure evil. Most people who end up in hospitals are in pain!
I once thought i knew pain.....Then i woke up in the hospital with 10 titanium screws in my wrist, a wired broken jaw, a broken rib, a broken clavicle a concussion and internal bleeding.
It was my wrist though, I never felt such unbelievable pain.
Like my hand and arm was dipped in boiling oil.
in that case i think i’d need a little more that a vicotin.

I’m a bit conflicted on this one. There is considerable abuse of the system, with people going into the public hospitals purely to get some of these drugs. As the article suggests, the problem is probably worse in Florida and California than in New York, but I’m sure there is some abuse, and that many doctors may find it easier just to go along with the patients’ requests than to refuse them.
On the other hand, medical care should be handled by doctors and nurses, not by politicians. Bloomberg has a problem of addressing problems and making them worse.
I’m not sure what the answer is, but this probably isn’t it.
While I do not think the .gov shoudl make such rules we alreay do this. 2-4 days of pain meds from the ER. I would never give oxycontin,fentenyl ,Morphne etc to a ER patient I was sending home. As for as someone coming to the ER for pain meds cause they (lost, had stolen or the dog ate) is a big red flag and a NO. Even my own patients is the clinic get a NO for those reasons. If they are stolen they must bring in a police report. Alot of patients LIE. These are stories I have heard for years.
Patients should not be relying upon scripts from the ER anyway. I’ve never had an ER give me more than the bare minimum to get by until I see a real Dr. This has been true since the ‘80’s, nothing new.
That said, this policy does a pretty good job of making the bureaucracy look stupid, and I’m all for that....
