Lopez: Limit size of ammo clips to stem gun violence

A Democratic state senator called Thursday for Arizona to ban ammunition clips that hold more than 10 rounds, saying they enable rampages like the ones in Newtown, Conn., Aurora, Colo., and her hometown of Tucson.

“After Sandy Hook, we said that was enough,” Linda Lopez said. “Those 20 children who were killed there, that was the minority compared to the number of children who die every year because of gun violence.”

At a news conference, Lopez said she also will propose legislation to require background checks for all gun sales and to repeal a state law requiring law enforcement to sell confiscated guns to licensed dealers.

“This problem is multifaceted, but we do have to start somewhere,” she said.

Lopez said she was working on the bills, which have yet to be introduced, with the nonprofit Arizonans for Gun Safety.

That group’s founder, Geraldine Hills, urged lawmakers to look beyond issues of gun rights and gun control to better protect citizens.

“This is not and should not be a partisan issue,” Hills said.

Lopez’s proposal comes two years after Jared Lee Loughner used a 30-round clip to shoot U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and 18 others, six of whom died, at a Tucson-area Safeway supermarket. Loughner, who was later diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, was sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty in an agreement with prosecutors.

“We can’t just blame the mentally ill for this,” Lopez said.

Besides restricting the size of ammunition clips, Lopez said Arizona needs to require universal background checks for all gun purchasers. That would expand the requirement to include purchases at gun shows and from unlicensed parties.

Rep. Chad Campbell, D-Phoenix, the House minority leader, also proposed universal background checks Wednesday when he announced plans for bills to address gun violence.

Lopez also wants to repeal a 2012 law requiring law enforcement agencies to sell or auction weapons used in crimes to licensed gun dealers within one year of seizure.

A call to Mike Phillipsen, a spokesman for the Senate Republican majority, seeking comment on Lopez's plan wasn't returned by late Thursday afternoon.

"Limit this, restrict that, ban the other thing ..."

Leftists are thoroughly predictable, and thoroughly useless.

How 'bout this, MIzzzzz Lopez: Lets' liberate teachers, administrators, staff, volunteer aides. Encourage them to bear arms for the defense of themselves and the precious children in their care.

If it saves even one life, Mizzzzzz Lopez, it's worth it.

>> “After Sandy Hook, we said that was enough,” Linda Lopez said.

How many killed annually by illegals, drunks, psychotic mothers? Have you really had enough, Lopez?

Take your Leftwing agenda and figuratively shove it.

It is possible never to have fired a gun. Some aren’t inclined that way; some consciously avoid it. I’ve only done so on I’d say less than ten occasions.

As an experiment I loaded 9 rounds into each of 6 magazines for my 9mm. I then inserted one in the handgun.

From the moment I racked in the first shell till I had shot all 6 magazines was under 90 seconds.

And I hit the target with every shot - near as I could tell as it was pretty tore up.

What retards elected this walking piece of ignorance?

Another democrat firearms expert here.
IGNORES reality.
Clips enable rampages?
If that’s the case then there would be multiple rampages every day in every gun store across the country.
Require background checks on all gun sales.
Legally bought a gun lately? Already a federal requirement.
“Look beyond issues of gun rights” Means take away rights to self defense. Bet she has armed security though.
Can’t just blame the mentally ill for this.
Hey babe, can you name a sane person who has gone on a killing spree? Did Charlie Manson use a evil gun?
And unlicensed parties. Ok so now we can’t sell our bought and paid for property to another person without goverment permission?
Ignorance combined with power is a dangerous thing.

Liberal logic: A 16 year old has the right to kill her unborn baby, but I can’t defend my family with a 30 round magazine.

In reference to Swiss training, I agree that training is as important as the gun itself, if not more so. I was a very avid hunter for many years. I learned respect for guns and was trained in hunter safety. I taught all my children the same respect and safety. I was very narrow minded and could not completely understand the need for defensive type weapons. I had my shotguns and my deer rifles. Why would anyone want anything else.

My grown son got very interested in defensive weapons and shooting and invited me to a week long defensive weapon school. Wow. Changed my mind, changed my collection, and provided insight to a whole new world of why and how to use defensive tactics and weapons. I highly recommend training with defensive weapons to everyone I meet. Although I was raised in a military family, I was never enlisted.

This communist punk doesn’t belong in America. I vote that she get a seat on a tramp freighter going one-way to North Korea. It’s time for a discussion about stripping anti-Americans and America haters of citizenship. If they are actively advocating destruction of the Constitution, they’re gone. They’re engaged in treason. Bye-bye.

I currently use two different types of clips: 5-round clips for my 1903 Springfield, and 8-round clips for my M1 Garand.

Linda Lopez’s Contemptible Hair-clips

A smile is something special,
A ribbon is something rare,
So I’ll be special and I’ll be rare with a smile and a ribbon in my hair.
To be a girl they notice,

Takes more than a fancy dress,
So I’ll be noticed because I’ll dress with a smile and a ribbon in my tresses...
The bigger my toothy grin is, the smaller my troubles grow
The louder I say I’m happy, the more I believe it’s so

So I’ll have that extra something,
Because I know what to wear.
So I’ll be special and I’ll be rare.
I’ll be something beyond compare.
I’ll be noticed because I’ll wear a smile and a ribbon in my hair

They want to change the language and I’m for it.

They want to ban high capacity clips then so be it.

I’ll keep my high capacity magazines.

Frankly, I can’t jam bullets into my Garand or M1A using a clip.

I understand your point, but I'm of the frame of mind that the ONLY law we should have about guns, is in the U.S. Constitution.
ANY OTHER LAW about guns, is an infringement upon our ability to "Keep and Bear Arms.
Anyone who would propose such a law, or support such a law, should be returned to DUST.

Absolutely. In fact, we have all the laws we need including the ability to restrict mental defectives and demonstrable nutsos from lawfully acquiring a cordless long distance drill.
