Several of the policy initiatives being considered by Vice President Biden’s working group [“Broad strategy on guns weighed,” front page, Jan. 6] appear to be plainly unconstitutional (e.g., to “stiffen penalties for carrying guns near schools” and to ban “ammunition magazines that can hold more than 10 rounds”). In 1995 the Supreme Court held in U.S. v. Lopez that the federal government did not have the power to ban people from carrying a gun near a school, and in 2008 the Supreme Court held in District of Columbia v. Heller that the federal government did not have the power to ban possession of a handgun that held 12 rounds. Biden’s working group should focus on options that are within the power of the federal government.

Biden’s working group should focus on options that are within the power of the federal government.

Biden's working group should bend over for a Beowulf up it's arse. Enough said. Anything beyond this tripe requires constitutional response.

Biden’s working group seems to have broken the law by
just meeting without posting notice as required, no
telling how many other laws they would like to break.

If the Second Amendment can be abridge by degrees, so can the First.

How would the left (er, now “progressive”) react at the demand that to protect society we must limit the number of pages in Hustler Magazine?

To use the Mayor Bloomberg formula, from 30 to 10 to “five or six” to 3 to 1 to NONE! None pages that is.

The left would strongly object of course, because we must allow Hustler if we are to allow Free Republic.

But this same left is supporting restrictions of speech when it offends Islam. So, clearly the left has an agenda and in their call to abridge both the First and the Second have shown themselves to be a domestic enemy of both. Are we getting too close to the “tipping point” where that conclusion becomes the norm among those who have taken an oath to defend said Constitution?

Based on how leftist elites are acting on the media outlets they control, that point may come very quickly indeed.
