Parks workers came upon a live cannon ball, loaded in a cannon that is getting refurbished, CBS 2s Lou Young reported exclusively.
The loaded artillery piece was one of two Revolutionary War-era cannons being stored at the parks Ramble shed near the 79th Street transverse. Preservation workers for the Central Park Conservancy called police about mid-day after opening up the capped cannon for cleaning.

How could the reporter know that?
A loaded cannon? I bet it’s an islamic plot! 9/11 again! Scramble the F-15s, homeland security clearly needs to respond. And it’s illegal to make jokes about it by a new executive order. Central Park will need to be closed for several years to sort out the situation.
If it saves one life!
Bloomberg and Cuomo are starting an investigation to see who left it loaded in a public park.
If you see something, say something. Remember, the danger is lurking -everywhere-. And it’s no laughing matter./
BAN CANNONS AND CANNONBALLS!!!;)
I hope at least they did chemistry on the powder.
As to “being able to fire” after all that time and having been underwater....I happen to know that 20 year old bottle rockets have a very low function rate, and that’s atmospheric, not marine. (read it in a book I did).

I guess Barney Fife and Andy Griffith were involved.
All is well, David Gregory was using it for a report.
When cannonballs are outlawed, only outlaws will have balls....
Assault Cannon?
Ping!!
Bowling balls, welding tanks and LOTS of match heads.
poor mans cannon.
Buncha NY pussies..........
Ban Bloomberg and Cuomo...
1. What’s a “live cannon ball”?
2. And in all that time the e-vile gun didn’t go berserk and kill anyone.
I bet Queen Mikey messed his bloomers.
If that black powder charge has remained totally sealed it is possible that it could be touched off. No guarantees the barrel itself has structural integrity though and the ball might be fused by rust to the barrel. What a pipe bomb!
We have a whole bunch of old cannon on static display near here. I am so tempted to go out right now and apply a match to every touch hole.
I won’t. But it is tempting.
There is a beautifully restored cannon in a little city park in a town not far from here. Every time I pass it I think what it must be like to live in the house across from the park that it's pointed at. ;^)
