Malloy wants background checks for all gun buys

HARTFORD -- Gov. Dannel P. Malloy wants thorough background checks on anyone buying any type of gun in Connecticut, expanding the law that now governs only handguns.

Malloy said it may be the only way to create tighter gun controls in the face of powerful advocacy groups like the National Rifle Association.

"Honestly, what do I really think? I think any time that you go buy a weapon, someone should check," Malloy said.

As the General Assembly moves toward forming a task force next week for fast-tracking new gun-control legislation, Malloy said today that it just makes sense to require all gun sales to have the kind of checks required of new handgun owners.

New gun permits require proof of training and both criminal and psychological background checks. Felons and those convicted of drug crimes or domestic violence are barred from permits, as well as those whose mental health issues may have resulted in forced psychiatric commitments.

Current law forces purchasers of rifles, if they do not have pistol permits, to wait two weeks before buying a rifle. But valid hunting licenses can be shown to skirt the check and waiting period. Private sales of firearms are not covered by the background check requirement.

"I understand why we have historically had an exemption for single-shot weaponry and if we could so define that, in such a way, then maybe that could continue to be an exclusion, but the problem is then NRA gets involved in that exclusion and it becomes as big as a house," Malloy said.

"The gun that was used in Newtown was sold as a single-shot weapon," Malloy said during an interview in his Capitol office. "All it needed was to be modified and all of a sudden you don't have a problem...."

Adam Lanza could have legally purchased firearms (no handguns due to not being 21). He had no criminal felony record. He had not been ajudicated mentally defective, even if he should have been. Many high profile mass shooters did legally purchase their guns.

"The gun that was used in Newtown was sold as a single-shot weapon"?

What is he talking about, a single shot semiauto?

So, is he saying that if you go to a gun show and purchase six guns from six different sellers, you will need to go through six background checks on the same day? That’s just a stupid waste of time and resources clogging up a system which is already a constipated mess. What fools.

Will criminals have to go through a background check before stealing a gun?

Background checks for politicians first.

Ironically in China, before you can join gov or become an elected official you must pass a Civil Service exam which tests your ability to read and write, understand rudimentary laws, budgetary and financial principles, math, basic working knowledge of science, economics, etc. One American financial reporter actually met with Chinese version of Treasury officials. Many had hands on experience in banking, stock trading and etc before they became officials. Our Treasury heads are made up of academics (who never ran a business) or agents of Wall Street (who leave Wall Street early in their careers with the sole purpose of protecting the interest of Wall Street bankers, and later rewarded upon leaving the low paying gov job with a lucrative, but low pressure job in financial firms as a reward for protecting bankers).

“forming a task force next week for fast-tracking new gun-control legislation”

“Fast-tracking” A new code word for violation the Constitution before anyone can do anything about it.

Connecticut already has some of the most infringing anti gun control measures on their lawbooks in the nation.

They are still walking targets for any mass murderer out of liberal hell.

Why should we listen to someone who was not legally elected by the people of Connecticut?

The list of disqualifying reasons will be substantially lengthened, too.

“Well sir, you had eggs for breakfast this morning? I’m afraid we’re going to have to disqualify you.”

Next up; axes, knives, hammers, nail guns, baseball bats, sticks, stones, bows and arrows...
