Sales of Guns Soar in U.S. as Nation Weighs Tougher Limits
NY Times ^

As Washington focuses on what Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. will propose next week to curb gun violence, gun and ammunition sales are spiking in the rest of the country as people rush to expand their arsenals in advance of any restrictions that might be imposed.

People were crowded five deep at the tiny counter of a gun shop near Atlanta, where a pastor from Knoxville, Tenn., was among the customers who showed up in person after the store’s Web site halted sales because of low inventory. Emptying gun cases and bare shelves gave a picked-over feel to gun stores in many states. High-capacity magazines, which some state and federal officials want to ban or restrict, were selling briskly across the country: one Iowa dealer said that 30-round magazines were fetching five times what they sold for just weeks ago.

My friend was at the gun show at the IX center in Cleveland, Ohio this morning. He got there early and said the place was absolutely packed, wall to wall people. He said that deals were taking place like crazy, inside the show and out in the lot (personal sales, friend to friend). I’m guessing that it’s like that all over.

If all current to date firearms, ammo and mags are “grandfathtered” with no new sales, I think we’d have an uneasy peace for a while.

We have enough stocks on hand to last for decades. Mags don’t wear out quick. Ammo lasts.

But if they criminalize any legal 2012 guns, ammo or mags, all bets are off. Many will not register, and will not turn them in, period.

Looks more like a Springfield Armory M1A with the NM stainless barrel. Saw one this morning for $2,000 +.

Sheer madness! And I don’t mean the buyers. I mean Dear Leader & Il Duce Cuomo among others.

"If you own a weapon, you should be stable,” said Mr. Gray, who said he had come from Los Angeles to buy a gun for his daughter. “You should be accountable for your actions. I don’t mind stricter background checks. What we’ve done with the mental health in this country — these people used to get care and were in facilities. And in most of these instances, it’s been people with mental problems.”"

Other than the "accountability" part, this is a stupid remark from a gun owner about mental patients and facilities. I dare any psychiatrist or therapist to predict any of their patients will go ballistic. They can't do it. Psychiatry is not an exact science. People will go over the edge when not expected, while seeing their therapist because his parents are not the Cleavers or because he got picked on at school.

Yes, there are some indicators for some, but how to tell the difference between anti-social behavior and potential psychotics is a judgement call, which again means in-exact science. The potential crazies will ALWAYS be out there, not to mention Jihadists and other religous/political motivated crazies.

That's why everyone should be armed around mass gatherings like schools, malls, arenas, etc. I really don't have a problem with armed guards in schools, malls, arenas, et al, as the liberals cry about.

The world is going nuts. I say, let's arm ourselves against those nuts and minimize their damage when we get the chance. 2 to body mass; 1 to the head.

I saw an M1 Gerand for sale in my local store for $1,500.00 brand new, but that was a week ago.

It was a beautiful rifle.

Concealed handgun license.
You will be fingerprinted and photographed, but there are no more background checks after that.

They know who you are.
No need to hassle you every time you buy a gun.

I hesitated to do it but they already knew who I was from the military so what the hell?

I’m using my oldest ammo first. I’ve been shooting re-loads from 1980. They are accurate, consistent and no failures.

Ya think, Pinch? Back orders for 30rd MagPul AR mags is over one million now. Just picturing a million brand new magazines filled with 30 million brand new cartridges makes me feels safer. :-)

There is not a semi-auto in any of the gun stores in town, except for a consignment AR, vastly over priced! Ammo, forget it.

Yup, makes me feel more secure. Oh noes, did I say "feel" like a liberal would say? Now I know I've lost my old mind. Har!

I was in a local gun store/pawn shop (Seattle suburb) several weeks ago. The only high capacity AR style weapons they had were in .22. A few days ago I was there and they had most of the wall filled up again with .223 and .308. A Bushmaster in .223 with no frills was about $2100 iirc. A S&W .223 no frills was ~ $1700. (I was looking for a .22 cheap plinker).

"For the first time, I am hearing people talking about the REAL meaning of the 2A, and that is a good thing."

Agreed. Of course it was never about hunting. I just included that in my rant. The 2A has always been about self-defense against tyranny in the plainest terms. I could quote numerous statements, publications, personal diaries, correspondence between our Founding Fathers, but it be one of those long lists of URL's we all get tired of seeing.

A Magpul rep told my local store that three years of production already in the supply stream has been sold. He said if the government allows new production, expect prices to double.

Of course, at a street price of about $15-20, Magpul has always been a steal, and will remain so, even if prices double. Meanwhile, the government will destroy a few million Magpuls bought by our troops with their own money, because they value that magazine over the GI stuff.

While everybody else was buying up the few remaining guns (mostly "defensive shotguns") and ammo, I decided to stock up on brand-name handgun mags at current prices. While I usually buy extra good magazines for my handguns when I see them on sale, I figured this was a golden opportunity to buy them at current sane prices. Even if I have plenty already, at least I won't be kicking myself for missing the chance of buying more at the normal price.

Magpul's warning that they will double their prices if the government allows them to stay in business will be the SOP for other companies, too.

What about something which was purchased/took possession of during the first 11 days of 2013?

As an herbalist and purveyor of old home remedies I know just what to do. Get out to the range, crack a vial of gunsmoke under your nose and inhale deeply. Your head will clear right up.
