In gun lore it’s known as the Revolt at Cincinnati. On May 21, 1977, and into the morning of May 22, a rump caucus of gun rights radicals took over the annual meeting of the National Rifle Association.
The rebels wore orange-blaze hunting caps. They spoke on walkie-talkies as they worked the floor of the sweltering convention hall. They suspected that the NRA leaders had turned off the air-conditioning in hopes that the rabble-rousers would lose enthusiasm.
The Old Guard was caught by surprise. The NRA officers sat up front, on a dais, observing their demise. The organization, about a century old already, was thoroughly mainstream and bipartisan, focusing on hunting, conservation and marksmanship. It taught Boy Scouts how to shoot safely. But the world had changed, and everything was more political now. The rebels saw the NRA leaders as elites who lacked the heart and conviction to fight against gun-control legislation.

What unfolded that hot night in Cincinnati forever reoriented the NRA. And this was an event with broader national reverberations. The NRA didn’t get swept up in the culture wars of the past century so much as it helped invent them — and kept inflaming them. In the process, the NRA overcame tremendous internal tumult and existential crises, developed an astonishing grass-roots operation and became closely aligned with the Republican Party.
Today it is arguably the most powerful lobbying organization in the nation’s capital and certainly one of the most feared. There is no single secret to its success, but what liberals loathe about the NRA is a key part of its power. These are the people who say no.

We each need to fight gun control with the same passion.
My thought is, any Congress critter who jumps onto the gun control bandwagon should be recalled. Republicans are the working class, we have the money to push recalls. They think they can make these moves now and everyone will forget by election. Probably true which is why we shouldn’t wait.
It’s funny because if the author wants to talk about history the government provided NRA members with military grade rifles - namely the M1 Garand - for the CMP (Civilian Marksmanship Program).
“Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.” Cut off the support network and isolate the target from sympathy. Go after people and not institutions; people hurt faster than institutions.

Better read it again. It ain't there. Some states have recalls, but the federal Constitution doesn't.
We have the ability to “recall” every 2 years. The 2014 campaign has to being now to overcome the incumbent advantage.
OK, if the state allows it, recall. If not, start campaigns extra early for those up in two years. Ads, the whole bit, just like they’re running right now.
I’m just saying there are no immediate consequences for these creeps so they turn their backs on us. They need to pay somehow right now.

The facts, less than ten years after the Revolt at Cinncinati the 1986 gun control act passed, followed by the assault weapons ban, and it will not ever stop. NO thanks to the NRA.
The NRA portrays itself as a bipartisan organization. IMHO there is no such thing where human rights are concerned. There are two sides to an issue generally, RIGHT, and WRONG, and the NRA has been on the wrong side of gun control since their inception way back in 18 seventy something.
The revolt was very short lived if it ever had any life. The NRA is the poster child for Mainstream, and remains so.
Hunting and safety are the key elements in their program when every dime should be at work protecting what the founding fathers worked so diligently and millions of dead patriots shed their blood, trying to protect.
It is a complete mystery why four or so million americans support this travesty, until one considers the latest election, then it is mystery no longer.
NAGR, GOA, SAF, JPFO Second Amendment Sisters, all do a much better job attempting to secure and preserve our GOD GIVEN RIGHTS, than the organization in question. Just think of the power if each one had four million members. Might even result in the NRA getting it, after a hundred and forty years.
Hmmmm..... no mention of how The Audobon Society or the Anglican Church were transformed into radical left wing political organizations.
And if self defense is ever needed, Joel, Scott, and Sari will be looking for a gun owning patriot to suck up to when the all might government can’t provide security.
I don’t think the First Amendment will have much power without the second. Ask an ex USSR citizen.

The 1986 gun control law allowed us to get back some of the rights lost in the 1968 travesty.
Now we can purchase rifles, shotguns and ammo across state lines, something the 1968 GCL banned. Still can’t buy handguns across state lines.
We did lose the right to buy new made taxable registered machine guns.
This applies to all big government efforts. Government violates rights, laws and tradition and citizens react.
Is this simple enough for MSM reporters to understand? Will they chanage their propaganda? (er, no)
