Powell: GOP has 'a dark vein of intolerance'

While continuing to identify as a Republican, former Secretary of State Colin Powell on Sunday criticized the GOP for a series of racist attacks against President Barack Obama.
"There's also a dark vein of intolerance in some parts of the party," Powell said on NBC's "Meet the Press." "What do I mean by that? What I mean by that is they still sort of look down on minorities."
Powell, who endorsed Obama, pointed to a number of statements that were directed at Obama as evidence that there is still racism within the party.
"When I see a former governor say that the president is 'shuckin' and jivin'.' That's a racial-era slave term," Powell said, referring to former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin using the term to describe Obama's response to the attacks in Libya.
Powell also pointed to former New Hampshire Gov. John Sununu, who was an aggressive surrogate for Mitt Romney, for calling Obama "lazy" after the first debate during the campaign.
"He didn't say he was slow, he was tired, he didn't do well; he said he was 'lazy,'" Powell said "Now, it may not mean anything to most Americans, but to those of us who are African Americans, the second word is "shiftless," and then there's a third word that goes along with it."
Powell also eschewed the "birther movement."
"The whole birther movement: Why do senior Republican leaders tolerate this kind of discussion within the party?" Powell asked. "I think the party has to take a look at itself."

Meanwhile, 100% of black Americans voted for Barack Obama. No Racism there, huh? But he’s mad that 100% of white Americans didn’t do the same thing.

Could the man be jealous that he didn’t get to be the first black president and like most liberals is trying to blame somebody else for it?
The General is correct that shucken and jiven is a Jim Crow era (I’m sure that’s what he meant) term, maybe slave era. But it’s not a term originated by whites, quite the opposite, and should be a lot more acceptable than bull sh*tt*ng in common usage. Though I think describing the President as a bull sh*tt*r would be fine, the media and perhaps Colin would be more critical of Sarah had she said that.
An incompetent soldier, so of course he plays the race card. Colonoscopy, conservatives don’t want you. You belong on a pike with the rest of the Democrat leadership.
I don’t doubt that there are pockets of prejudice within the GOPe but they’re nothing compared to the millions of government dependent “victims” that now inhabit the crime ridden ghettos the rat party created for their own power. Add that to the name calling and really dirty tricks the rats instigate against any black who dares step off their plantation.
Powell needs to forget what color everyone is and start seeing the bigger picture.
I thought he was smarter than this. The black communist POTUS doesn’t get a pass on everything just because he’s black.

Why do republican leaders not come out and say:
1 Colin Powell is NOT a republican he is a democrat spokesman.
2 Democrats are racist they are the racist party and this is proven again and again in their history and in their current behavior.
But no, we let Powell and all democrats call US racist every day of the week. This tactic is a lie and is destroying us. That is how stupid we are. (I mean republicans).
