Colin Powell: Hagel ‘Knows What War Is’ This comes from a man without credibility

Insisting that he is still a Republican, former Secretary of State Colin Powell said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that Chuck Hagel is “superbly qualified” to be the next secretary of state and he is confident that the former Nebraska senator “will do a great job.”

“I think he gets confirmed,” Powell asserted. “He’s superbly qualified based on his overall record, based on his service to the country, based on how he feels about troops and veterans and their families.”

Powell, who supported President Barack Obama in each of his election bids, spoke at length about Hagel’s accomplishments, going through them chronologically beginning with the two-time senator’s military duty in Vietnam. He noted that the president's nominee has a “very, very distinguished public-service record that he can stand on.”

“It might be useful just to stand back and take a look at this man overall,” Powell said. “This is a guy who knows veterans, knows the troops, knows the USO. I’ll tell you who thinks that makes him a good candidate for secretary of defense — the men and women in the Armed Forces of the United States and their parents, who know that this is a guy who will be very careful putting their lives at risk because he put his life at risk. He knows what war is.”

Regarding the controversial comments about Iran and Israel that have politicians questioning Hagel's fitness to serve, Powell said “he is a fellow who speaks his mind. He sometimes gets in trouble with those who think he should not speak his mind. He says what he believes, and he sticks with it.”!

Certainly Colin Powell has come to be as big a BS artist as as Barack Obama. He is telling people to look at Hagel’s titles and life experiences, and to IGNORE any of Hagel’s behavior or actual policies.

Ignore that he wants to dismantle the military, he “cares” about the soldiers. He got shot at and remembers that it’s bad.

That type of idiocy gets soldiers killed.

Our government now consists of nothing but fools that vouch for each other.

Our government has always consisted of fools. I think the difference now, is that so many of these fools, are utterly malevolent, evil, beady eyed, scum sucking slime bags. Other than that, they are nice guys. (sarc)

Powell at one time appeared respectable, but his conduct over the past several years has disabused us of any such misconceptions.

What fools we are to keep listening to such bullsh*t from the Ministry of Truth and its various propagandists, apologists, and apparatchniks.

As long as the mass media just tells us what these a-Holes, fools, “useful idiots,” and/or traitors want us to hear,
we are ... doomed.

I’m surprised that Colon Bowel doesn’t also point out that his best buddy’s mentor,Bill Ayers, knows what “war” is as well.

Colin Powell is just another RINO using anything he can to betray conservatives.

Claiming that Hagel “knows what war is” is like saying that Jack Murtha was a diehard Marine supporter.

Hagel does not need Powell to attest to Hagel’s understanding of war. Hagel understands war from a frontline prospective.

I’m afraid Colin Powell is a defeatist. Probably has something to do with his Vietnam experience.

This Bowel fool is such a knee-padded, affirmative-action loser. Does anyone with even 1 functioning listen to any of his racist lib drivel? The fact he was ever a general does not speak highly of the military.

Gotta say, that this is one of the WORST recommendations for a SecDef ever seen.

“Knows about the USO....” Whaaaat? It is true that while he was building his cellular telephone fortune, he was CEO of USO. So, the focus nowadays is on the day to day residential and social needs of our military.... and NOT the DEFENSE (as in Secretary of Defense) of our nation. That’s one.

Two:
“...this is a guy who will be very careful putting their lives at risk because he put his life at risk. He knows what war is.”
OK- Here is the man’s service record, per wikipedia:
“A recipient of two Purple Hearts while an infantry squad leader in the Vietnam War....Hagel served in the same infantry squad as his younger brother Tom, and they are believed to be the only American siblings to have done so during the Vietnam War.They also ended up saving each other’s lives on separate occasions. While serving during the war, he received the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, two Purple Hearts, Army Commendation Medal, and the Combat Infantryman Badge.” (How the brothers served in the same unit is certainly of interest-how did this happen? There has to be someone from that unit to talk about it— as it is considered a real compromise of unit integrity/security).

Hagel is a member of CFR, he headed up the agent Orange Settlement Fund, deputy Administrator of the VA under Reagan (resigned over disagreement with VA admin Robert Nimmo, who was cutting VA, over agent Orange payments).
Hagel was a staff aide to a congressman and then involved in a whole lot of inside the beltway lobbying for Firestone Tire/Rubber. Also investment banker and CEO for an elections machine company. Then he went back to NE and ran for Senator as a starting office, and won (1st Repub in NE as senator in 24 years).
n July 2007, Hagel was one of three Republican Senators who supported Democratic-proposed legislation requiring a troop withdrawal from Iraq to begin within 120 days. In a 2009 Washington Post op-ed, after being nominated as Chairman of President Obama’s Intelligence advisory board, Hagel said that “We cannot view U.S. involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan through a lens that sees only ‘winning’ or ‘losing,’ Iraq and Afghanistan are not America’s to win or lose.” And that “We can help them buy time or develop, but we cannot control their fates”. This is pure Lieberman squeak, and plainly proven wrong. The US had distinct goals in both conflicts.

So— this with Powell’s “blessing” and not McCain’s among others— is an inside the beltway, pro-chinese (as in let us into Afghan quickly please chinee) Georgetown swanko foreign policy set, pro-UN, pro-muslim, anti-Israeli, pro-Saudi type appointment. His views on Iran also show this. As a lobbyist, he knows the game, and getting paid and playing it with intel and obamaomau, this is just another game by a “pretend” conservative— who seems more libertarian. As such, perfect for demcrats looking for someone to do their bidding— the lobbyist’s choice. Powell’s arguments about “putting people at risk in war” are ludicrous— it is obama who would do that, no matter what secDef says. The fact Robert Gates backs him, and log-cabin (gay) repubs do not says volumes as well, on major social issues (the ultra lefties/gay lobby want to affect our leadership in the military bigtime). Our military is being hobbled by this kind of polical mumbojumbo and colin powell confirms it from the cocktail circuit in Georgetown. There will be much said on Monday about his ludicrous comments— what a tool.

The “war on terror” will be conducted on any BUT the islamofascists, which is what THEY want. And this view will be dismissed as being a “neo-con” view, but it is a realists view of who we should be fighting.

Here it is the lament of the inside the beltway RINOs who know their place, just one example:

“While the transition has been remarkably fast, today’s Republican Party is simply not the party of Dwight Eisenhower or even Ronald Reagan. Scowcroft advised Presidents Nixon, Ford and George H.W. Bush. Hagel and Huntsman both served in the Reagan administration. But, just as the Tea Party is now the de facto domestic policy face of the GOP, the neocons are its foreign policy face.”

This was from: “Republican Foreign Policy in Name Only”=
http://www.outsidethebeltway.com/republican-foreign-policy-in-name-only/#comments

Obama is gutting our military leadership, and these are the people to help them do it, to sell him the rope. Powell is not to be trusted... period. Wish that Schwartzkopf was around to comment.

Think you are right. Former Sec of State (not a font of pro-semitism), and from a cultural bias that is not pro-jewish let alone Israel, but IS pro black muslim— he defends a corn-belt white short-time Army (both are Army, the same Army that produced Nidal Hasan, MD an islamic terrorist in their idiotic midst)demonstrably anti-Israel, and a track record of bad policy advocacy. But to Powell is is about “labels” and pitch... not reality.

Totally inside the beltway and dancing to the saudis (and that’s not all) tune, approval.
