Bail for illegal immigrants in question before Md. high court
The Baltimore Sun ^ | January 14, 2013 | Andrea F. Siegel

Maryland's top court could make it much more difficult for undocumented immigrants to secure bail bonds, in a case likely to resolve long-standing questions about whether bondsmen are on the hook when clients get deported before trial.

In a case pending at the Court of Appeals, Big Louie Bail Bonds has been ordered to pay more than $100,000 in Baltimore County in bail forfeitures after 10 defendants were deported before their criminal trials. Lower courts ruled that the company knew — or should have known — it was taking on clients with a high risk of deportation. "We can't afford to be in business like that. It just won't be worth it," said Luis Contreras, one of the owners of Big Louie, a Baltimore-based company that writes more than 800 bonds a year in the Hispanic community.

Unlike most criminal proceedings, cases against immigrants can set off a separate federal process that carries the threat of deportation. Those who are already in the country illegally may have to deal with the state courts and federal immigration authorities at the same time.

Lower courts ruled that the company knew — or should have known — it was taking on clients with a high risk of deportation.

How about the people buying the bail bonds? Don't you suppose they know their clients have a high risk of deportation as well?

Now, when the bail bondsmen start charging illegals a premium to take this risk into account, how long do you suppose they will have before getting sued for racial profiling or the like?

The bondsmen I have talked to say they will not bail out illegal immigrants because the illegals almost always flee.

Good! Louie and the other bleeding hearts that cater to these real criminals should be deported along with their clients too.

I have family that are bondsmen, so I kinda side on protecting the bondsmen.

Not sure if they bond Illegal Aliens....but all bondsmen should have the right to refuse illegal aliens....because of their flight risk

How in the world can they be deported BEFORE a trial takes place? It takes forever to get a deportation order filled.

Why can't the INS send over a copy of the deportation completion to the State, so they can “close the books” on the Deported Ones?

Government claim of “protecting privacy” are just so much hooey. The defendants are not even US citizens, and since when have the Feds actually taken our privacy rights seriously?

TIP OF THE ICEBERG----there's bigtime govt conspiracy and collusion going on and lots of secrecy to subvert US laws.

AS FREEPER TADSLOS INSIGHTFULLY POSTED:

Americans have the foreign government of Mexico (and its co-conspirators in the Third World), that continually and relentlesly meddle in the internal affairs of the US----and BOTH vote-crazed political parties----- and ALL three branches of our government---- enable and actively participate in the process. Mexico, however, would NEVER cede it’s sovereignty to the US - but they sure don’t mind taking our foreign aid dollars. Mexico is a giant leech, sucking us dry.

This is unprecedented---a two-bit foreign govt aiding and abetting in undermining the constitutional freedoms of Americans and subverting the national security of a sovereign govt.

Americans have no govt defending their interersts----but every invader on our shores has TWO govts defending their interests---(1) vote-crazed pols in our govt, and, (2) Mexico (and Third World co-conspirators egging on the rest of the hyphenate invaders).

There's plenty of collusion and conspiracy going on and lots of secrecy. This must be stopped.

The Founders escaped foreign domination and structured the new American govt with safeguards to keep Americans free and safe from foreign domination.

All of the laws and legal measures are there but they are not being employed.
