But HHS’ latest Head Start Impact Study found taxpayers aren’t getting a good return on this “investment.” According to the congressionally-mandated report, Head Start has little to no impact on cognitive, social-emotional, health, or parenting practices of its participants. In fact, on a few measures, access to the program actually produced negative effects

The first studies showing Head Start to be a complete waste of money came out back in the early seventies.

Who says it doesn’t work? Who got the money to run the program? How much of the funding ended up in union coffers and back to Democrat political campaign funds? How many teacher indoctrinators are employed? How many now leftist young voters got their start with a little proper mind molding?

You only need to check out the “teachers” to figure out why it won’t work with any amount of money...

another pure and simple redistribution of taxpayer’s money...

we adopted our sons through the county... our oldest son had been in Head Start as a foster child... he was about to enter kindergarten... he could count to 2, he knew no colors, and two shapes... he knew none of the alphabet... we talked with his teachers and asked them why??? one of them said they were mostly concerned with nutrition... once he came to live with us, he stopped headstart... by the end of the first month he knew the alphabet, basic shapes and colors and could count to 14... within 7 months, he was reading... i homeschool him and his younger brother..,

A colleague of mine designed and carried out a Head Start program eval in 1972 for Stanford Research Institute--a five year follow up. Even then it was clear that a slight bounce after one year disappeared completely by year two and never returned. We have known for 40 years that Head Start is a failure at its stated purpose, and in fact is basically a scam. The government was not interested in the facts and the study was ignored.

The truth of Head Start is that it was designed as a jobs progam (Redistributionism) for unemployable underclass mothers who got "hired" as "classroom aides" at HS progams, and basically sat around chatting and picking their noses while their kids played with whatever toys were provided.

It never was expected to make any difference for the kids, all it was for them was group babysitting.

And Junior Socialist and Obama-wanna-be Julian Castro just rammed through a city funded version of head start here in San Antonio. It promises full day day care to four locations on everyone’s sales tax!

Can't feed 'em, can't teach 'em, don't breed 'em. Considering 80+ percent of city high school graduates are functionally illiterate, not to mention the number of drop outs, it would be easy to conclude that no spending program, and no amount of money would help. I suppose only the brain dead would think otherwise.

I will be quite happy to cut them all off if it means one less dollar of debt for my children.

Head Start is really free day care for crack mamas, octomoms, and welfare moms so they can lay around in their rent subsidized apartments, smoke weed, screw with a current baby daddy to get pg again. It’s nice to have their screaming kids picked up by the free school bus and gone for the day so mom can party on.
