This piece of crap, funded by oil sheiks, ranked TENTH in its opening weekend of wide release.
Translation: no one except the moronic kooks went to watch this garbage.
Matt Damon and his oil sheik pals who hate American energy independence campaign against fracking while they live the lives of multi-millionaires.
Shove it Matt. And your hero Zero too.

Damon and his fellow Obama worshipers in Hollywood can all go frack themselves.

I guess I'm a little surprised at its failure. All the ads I've seen for it on TV downplay the politics and make it appear to be a romance film. If it is doing badly, then I suspect either:
1.) The complete trailers shown in theaters make it look political, and thus, boring, or
2.) Matt Damon just doesn't pack in the viewers unless he's in a Bourne film.
Either scenario works for me.

My buddy turned down a fracking contract because of all the convoluted bad views....He’s really, really mad at himself now.

“Fracknation” in the meantime, is doing quite well from what I understand.

For his next project, Damon can film an in-depth examination of the types and variety of magazines typically found in tax preparer waiting rooms.

Needs a Nelson, “Ha Ha”.
Also, what did it cost to produce? Hopefully losing $$$.

I looked at the Mojo site for how much it cost to make and distribute. I could not find that. Does anyone know how much they stand to lose on this?
To: SoFloFreeper
Wow. Promised Land was funded by the United Arab Emirates, who have a financial stake, of course, in preventing the development of alternatives to oil.

They had a production budget of $15 million. Pennsylvania gave them $4 million in tax credits.
So it looks like they have lost $4 million on this POS.

According to the following site, the budget was $15 mil, but Pennsylvania gave the production a $4 million tax credit. Although mentioned, there is no info on the amount OPEC pitched in. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Promised_Land_(2012_film)

Matt Damon is in his 40’s now. He’s an old man as for as romance goes.

Which studio distributed it? Which cable channel will keep it in heavy rotation until the "cost" has been recouped?
Which libraries will buy copies?
box office is only one avenue stream. This is "infotainment" for educrats (and activists) to use to indoctrinate.
