Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) strongly criticized President Obama's push to introduce new gun laws on Wednesday.
Rubio's comments on the Laura Ingraham show came shortly before Obama unveiled the specifics of his new efforts to reduce gun violence.
Rubio, often mentioned as a likely 2016 presidential candidate, said it would have been better if Obama had decided to announce his proposals without being accompanied by children. Obama was joined at the press conference by children who wrote to the president in response to the December shooting massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut that resulted in 28 dead.
"I think ultimately he has a right to do that and I understand he has a right to do that," Rubio said. "I think most of us would have preferred if it just had been a straightforward address to the country because it implies that somehow those of us who do not agree with his public policy prescriptions dont equally care about children."
Vice President Biden, who directed a task force that passed recommendations on reducing gun violence to Obama, also joined the president at the event.
Rubio called Democrats' interest in pushing a new assault weapons ban "misplaced."
"I think it's completely misplaced. Because here's the issue in this public policy debate that's different from others: there is a constitutional right to bear arms," Rubio said. "I did not create that and he cannot erase that. It is in the Constitution. If they want to change the Constitution, if they want to believe the 2nd Amendment should not be in there or if they believe it should be rewritten in the 21st Century then let them have the guts to stand up and propose that."
But until they do that, Rubio continued, "then they've got to abide by it. And if you're going to pass a bunch of laws that are not going to work but are going to infringe on the 2nd Amendment right of law abiding citizens you're going to have a problem with that."
At the press conference Obama announced that he planned to make 23 executive actions on gun violence. Obama said he planned to nominate Todd Jones to become the new director for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Obama also called on Congress to pass legislation requiring a universal background check for guns and a limit on bullets in magazine clips.
And after that Rubio will promote amnesty in sync with Islamocommie.
Why is it that Islamofacists and militia always seem to hide behind children ? /s
Why do we keep hearing that he is being considered for a run at the president slot? He is not a natural born citizen, similar to Obama from what I understand.
I guess GOPe consider two wrongs do make a right...so we should just ignore and go along to get along.....wrong.

Marco Rubio
Rand Paul
Bob McDonnell
Scott Walker
are the 3 candidates I can support with contributions in 2016. My decision is based on who handles the MSM best without looking like deer in the headlights or make stupid statements on rape and pregnancy. And more important, they are PROVEN winners.
Correction: typo 3 instead of 4.
The republicans are purging anyone who shows any inclination towards Conservative or Constitutional principles. If anyone on your list of 4 makes it to 2016 unscathed, they are the darling of the RINO’s and will be the next romney to lose an election. Conservatives better find a new horse to hitch up to, because the RINO they’re hitched to now is in its death throes.
I would not give one peso to Amnesty Liberal Rubio. He seems to be the best thing Dems have
I have to correct you - Obama is the best thing the DEMS have. I have a few issues with Rubio, but I’d sure vote for him over the scum we now have occupying the WH. Once again, the purists raise their heads. Romney was a bad candidate, but Rubio is no Romney. We’re never going to agree 100% with any candidate, but we have to make decisions not on single issues. Let’s just wait and see who throws their hat in the ring for 2016 before we destroy someone.
Rubio was a great candidate, but he pretty much abandoned those who put him in office. He is an eloquent speaker and may be a decent man, but he could too easily be another Justice Roberts who sounded good and looked even better on paper.
Power corrupts, and Washington corrupts absolutely...
I know it is way too early, so my list of 4 is based on what I have seen so far. I would love to see a “take no prisoners” conservative actually run and win the election. But I am a realist first. I prefer an actual win in the election instead of just mental satisfaction of having run the most conservative candidate who lost.
Who is on your list?
The 47% will not get any smaller in 2016, after the community organizer has his way for next 4 years. I don’t see how the job situation gets better under Obama. Which means more scared people who will depend on the government to give them EBT cards, unemployment for ever, easier access to permanent disability, and the 1760 other welfare benefits available to the jobless.
Rubio is most certainly not your “take no prisoners” conservative. But he would be 10 times more effective in effective communication abilities than Romney, and much more conservative compared to McCain.
I like Rubio’s response to Obama’s gun confiscation speech. I also like what he has been saying about taxes, size of government, and free markets.
He is a great speaker and says all the right things. He is very articulate when speaking off the cuff and seems passionate. The GOP needs someone with that ability—we haven’t had it since Reagan. But, they need principles and vision.
Romney and McCain had neither. They were both 100% establishment GOP and not conservative at all. Rubio came in as a conservative from outside the establishment, but he acclimated very (too) quickly. I have many friends in FL who supported him early on and now are treated with disdain.
Can you list a few examples of what exactly Rubio did to treat them with disdain? Any laws Rubio pushed for or against? Without some actual examples I am afraid it becomes irrelevant.
Rand Paul is my guy. He has the guts to stand up to the POS and stand for the constitution. That’s my criteria.
I agree with you. He clearly has a spine. I wonder why he is not universally liked on FR. He is certainly is not the same as Ron Paul, who was whimsical.
with that way of thinking, then no one should run for president from the GOP. Let’s just hand it over to the left and allow this country to go down the crapper at a quicker pace than what it is.
