Editorial: Gov, this is WAR!
Boston Herald ^ | January 17, 2013

Last night Gov. Deval Patrick declared war on the taxpayers of Massachusetts, proposing the largest tax hike in state history — nearly $2 billion.

Today it’s time for voters to demand that their elected representatives choose up sides. They can give in to this lame duck governor intent on bringing taxpayers to their knees and economic growth to a standstill, or they can side with their hard-pressed constituents.

The worst part is that this is a “crisis” of the governor’s own making. MBTA debt and deferred maintenance on it and state highways would be manageable with some reforms and a modest hike in the gas tax. But no, Patrick wants to give taxpayers rail lines no one needs at a price we can’t afford so he can justify an ongoing $1 billion a year raid on their wallets.

Looks like Lil Barry is doing what the majority of voters in the Commonwealth prefer: politicians in favor of higher taxes.

I guess the Governor’s actions as an incitement for the Boston Herald to “declare war” on him is lost in the irony that they have helped him and others like him elsewhere get rid of the very implements that would make their “war” feasible - their guns. Hahahahahahahaaaaa!!!!

Yeah, good luck with that.

Massachusetts is made up mostly of pie-eyed liberals and their gimme groups. The taxes will pass, and the majority of Taxhachusetts citizens will pay gladly.

After all, it’s for the chiiiiiilllllldrennnn.

(yawn)
If there was ever a state that deserves to reap what it has sown, it’s Massachusetts.

The problem isn’t taxes, it is government that overreaches. Solve that problem and high taxes will go away. Limit the reach and scope of government, and budget problems solve themselves. Elect politicians who aspire to solve all of life’s problems and you are guaranteed to have high taxes and massive budget shortfalls the rest of your life and forever after that.

Not to mention clerks with their noses into everything.

Interesting contrast. Nearly half a dozen GOP governors recently proposed either cutting taxes or eliminating income taxes altogether, and here is liberal Massachusetts’ Obama Jr. talking about raising taxes and fees by BILLIONS more.

While I feel bad for any Conservatives trapped in that state, yet to all the others: PAY UP - IT'S YOUR CIVIC DUTY. Now fork it over!

I have a friend who relies on the local transportation system. He said last week announcements were played telling people how to cough and sneeze, apparently due to the recent flu epidemic. I guess people need to taught how to cover their mouths? No wonder they need big governments.

It will become the high tax states like N.Y., Mass., and Calif., against low tax and spend places like
Texas and Lousiana?
As a bid ness owner I guess I’ll seek out a low tax and spend place like Texas.

Actually, Massachusetts (had been) a middle of the road tax state for about the last 20 years. (We also had Republican Governors from 1990 through 2006.)

Patrick is an awful governor and is clearly an enemy of the suburbs, taxpayers and citizens. His constituency, as he sees it, is illegals and deadbeats (think Uncle Omar and Aunt Zetuni), civil “service” and unions.

A lot of people vote Democrat out of habit, or heritage. Massachusetts is the second most Catholic and second most Democratic state. Rhode Island is number one, in both. (The largest ethnic group in the state is Italian, not Irish, btw.) It's a damn shame, because most Catholics are otherwise exemplary people (I was raised Catholic).

Lonesome,
Please do not think I’m anti Catholic or anti Jew etc but I fail to understand why whole groups of folks out there vote against thier interests?
The Pope insists abortion is wrong and this punk denigrates Christianity yet majorities vote for obammy. Same for Jews. Obammy is anti Israel and pro moosie yet American Jews overwhelmingly vote for him?
Are folks that foolish?

Why would I think you are anti-Catholic? (The most fanatical anti-Catholics are ex-Catholics.) Or anti-Semitic? Your observation about the contradiction between Obama’s clearly anti-Christian and anti-Israeli sentiments and support by Jewish and Catholic voters are valid, obvious and widely disseminated. And frustrating, to conservatives who admire and respect Christianity and Israel.
