Go For the Throat! Obama Must Declare War on the Republican Party.
Slate ^ | January 18, 2013 | John Dickerson

Posted on 01/19/2013 4:43:02 AM PST by Jim Noble

On Monday, President Obama will preside over the grand reopening of his administration. It would be altogether fitting if he stepped to the microphone, looked down the mall, and let out a sigh... There's no indication that the president's clashes with House Republicans will end soon...

The challenge for President Obama’s speech is the challenge of his second term: how to be great when the environment stinks...The president who came into office speaking in lofty terms about bipartisanship and cooperation can only cement his legacy if he destroys the GOP...

How should the president proceed then, if he wants to be bold? ...

Obama’s only remaining option is to pulverize. Whether he succeeds in passing legislation or not, given his ambitions, his goal should be to delegitimize his opponents...

Obama has an opportunity to hasten the demise of the old order by increasing the political cost of having the GOP coalition defined by Second Amendment absolutists, climate science deniers, supporters of “self-deportation” and the pure no-tax wing...

The president already appears to be headed down this path. He has admitted he’s not going to spend much time improving his schmoozing skills; he's going to get outside of Washington to ratchet up public pressure on Republicans...

Presidents don’t usually sow discord in their inaugural addresses, though the challenge of writing a speech in which the call for compromise doesn’t evaporate faster than the air out of the president’s mouth might inspire him to shake things up a bit. If it doesn’t, and he tries to conjure our better angels or summon past American heroes, then it will be among the most forgettable speeches, because the next day he’s going to return to pitched political battle. He has no time to waste.

The author assumes that his metaphorical "war", with the end game of a one party state, will not in short order lead to real war. This is a major strategic error. If the President decides to call down the thunder, he'd better be sure his allies like the author are ready to deal with the storm - a storm that will last for years and bathe the nation in blood.

The pResident doesn’t have to destroy the republican party, the Republican party is doing a perfect job of that themselves.

He should thank Allah that Republican party politicians have no balls.

I heard he’s using MLK’s Bible or something like that. A typical stunt meant to impress the gullible.

Let him try. He doesn’t have the votes. And he isn’t going to gain seats in 2014. The one thing that might be good for the GOP is being passive aggressive. I don’t think it’s likely that any serious, beneficial action on the debt occurs over the next four years. So rather than try to force Obama into entitlement reform (which he and the Senate would likely only buy into with a VAT), just hold the line on taxes, refuse to increase spending, undercut Obama care, refuse to cooperate on immigration, and pray for the health of the Supreme Court.

The GOP position should be “you got your tax hike on the rich, problem solved”, then walk away and hope for better results in 2014 and 2016. Obama isn’t going to do anything serious about spending without agreement to ridiculous tax hikes, so let him own the spending and debt, and we will see if that “destroys” the GOP.

Dickerson doesn’t realize that gun control isn’t getting out of the Senate, so blaming the GOP for that isn’t going anywhere. And I’m sure the electorate will be pitching a fit over the lack of carbon taxes. He is spending too much time in DC with his buddies and too little time in flyover country.

If only we had such a party. The sooner Obama "destroys" the existing R party the better. A weaker R party won't be able to keep conservatives out or will be an opportunity for a third party to gain some seats.

carbon taxes

Maybe 1 out of 100 Obama voters even knows what a carbon tax is. Obama has everything to lose by pushing issues like that and gun control, and nothing to gain.

Statist and statism , I believe will become an extremely popular words this year.

Get rid of All Them. The more we wait , the harder it will be.
When it gets to the point that everyone agrees, the struggle will be overwhelming.

I wonder if the author would be in favor of the Bill Ayers’ idea of eliminating 10% of the population who stand in the way of the progressive “ideal?”

The first black skinned president turned out to be the meanest and most divisive president in history. And the most prejudiced against various groups of people. Conservatives, the so-called “wealthy”, gun owners, etc.

During the times of slavery in the US maybe at its peak 20% of American families in the states that allowed slavery owned slaves. Because most white colored people entered the US after the civil war today at best only 5% of the population in states that allowed slavery have a direct link guilt to the past exploitation of slave labor. Of course, a hundred years of Jim Crow laws, economic oppression and indefensible discrimination followed the theoretical emancipation of the slaves, but those harsh realities raise different issues from those connected to the long-ago history of bondage. The bottom line is that very few white Americans today have any direct link to slavery.

On balance Obama is the most prejudiced people in a major political office in the history of the United States. The reality is that he came in to office at a unique time in American history when race relations were the best they have ever been. Instead of working to heal race relations in a way only a black skinned man could have he did the opposite. He has pitted not only race against race but people in different economic classes against each other and people of different social interests against each other.

Barack Obama has turned out to be the most racist and hateful president in modern history. Why?

Yes, Dickerson has some “great” advice for Fearless Leader: Lash out at those recalcitrant conservative wackos who refuse to go along with Obama’s plans to “fundamentally transform” i.e. completely socialize the U.S. Whip the Obamatons into a frenzy where they threaten anyone tarred with the conservative label. Some nut threatened to bomb the Madison, Wisc. capital due to his hatred of Scott Walker. That’s a start. Get some of those Occupy dopes to defecate on conservative politicians cars instead of police cars. There’s countless wonderful ways where The Great Spreader can foment discontent among the faithful. Throw more pies at conservative speakers. Yes, the list is endless.

Why, to restate the obvious, because the Media and GOPe lets him get away with it!

Well, I don't know about that, but those who support a one party state as the author does (or a GDR-style multiparty state with a "leading party" to which all others are subordinate) inevitably empower the killers.

This is especially true when the author conflates political opposition with demography: "old", "white", "Southern", "men" - these terms all classify as, and are intended to classify as, groups "standing in the way of progress", and just as bulldozers and dynamite are necessary to clear the path for a road, camps and machine guns sooner or later prove necessary to clear a path for progress.

John Dickerson (the author), as such, is not important. But his line of thinking is very important, and very, very dangerous.

In six months, we've moved from buying fried chicken sandwiches to buying AR-15s. People who think like the author have no idea what they are dealing with. They imagine the enemy is "Republicans". How little they understand that Boehner and McConnell are the best friends they have.

I don’t think there will be much of a reaction if (well, when) Obama attacks the GOP, because for one thing, the GOP has so little support that people will just take it as rhetoric. The Tea Party is yesterday’s news and isn’t really visible enough anymore to be a good target, so I think Obama will just engage in some vague murmuring about his “enemies,” since he has no hesitation in using this word.

But this will just add to the division and tension that already exists, street crime in which non-blacks are the victims (which he is treating as a political statement, true to Bill Ayers’ Weathermen background) will rise and social chaos such as rioting will be tolerated to an even greater extent, and our economy will be so bad that there simply won’t be time left over for most of us to do anything but survive. That’s how Stalin managed to eliminate his enemies: starve them.

Obama doesn’t have to declare war on the Republican Party, they already work for him now.

All he has to say is “BOO” and they run like cockroaches when the light is turned on.
