Mr. President, you and I disagree about almost everything.
Over the past four years, I’ve utilized both the written and spoken word through radio broadcasts, columns, emails, and lectures in order to point out what I consider to be the tragic path that our country is currently traveling down, an ill-advised course that you have chosen and fully embrace.
In some instances our differences of opinion are very minor, but in most cases the differences are extremely significant.
Where there were positions you took that I agreed with (and that happened very rarely, I might add), I was quick to point that out or as Fox News would say “fair and balanced.”
Indeed, I do not take my role in the fourth estate lightly.
Recently, you spoke about your 23 executive orders regarding gun control, a highly charged issue that will foster great debate.
I would just like to know if I fall under your proposal to “direct the Attorney General to review categories of individuals prohibited from having a gun to make sure dangerous people are not slipping through the cracks.”
The written and spoken word is a very powerful weapon; does that make me a dangerous person?
When most people were focusing on your executive orders, they were missing perhaps the most telling comment that you’ve made since you took office.
You said, “we are all responsible for each other.”
Mr. President, in communist collectives we are all responsible for each other and in socialist communes we are all responsible for each other.
In the United States of America, as envisioned by our Founding Fathers; we are responsible to God, our country, our family, and ourselves and no one else.
Therefore, if my neighbor has a string of bad luck and decides to do nothing about it, I can choose to help him, but he is not my responsibility.
If a woman decides to take advantage of the system by having several children, I can empathize, I can educate, but she is not my responsibility.
While being encouraged to do so by our elected officials, corporations that play fast and loose with the laws and then subsequently fail and collapse, their sustainment is not my responsibility.
Mr. President, you use these words: life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
Contrary to what you believe, the Founding Fathers did not guarantee success or happiness; they guaranteed the ability to pursue it.
If I take an active role as my country's keeper/defender, I will do more for my brother than all the politicians throughout history...
I am my brother’s keeper if he breaks into my home. I am responsible to make sure he stops right there and never does it again.
Well ultimately it’s responsibility to God that’s the core driver here. All the other things follow. We do good in the world because it pleases God to have the good done. Not because the world becomes a secondary god that can demand it of us.
But even if we hypothetically supported Barack’s collectivist thesis, the wisdom of experience advises us that you don’t do a favor to a society of mixed honest and dishonest people (most of whom are mostly honest) by trying to disarm it by fiat, by bans. That only puts the tactical advantage to the most dishonest people.
You can not look after your Brother if you do not look after yourself.
As to being your brothers KEEPER that is something that is at the core of Obama’s being.
The center of the Liberal mantra.

And you can’t look after anybody, whether yourself or other selves, properly — until you first look to and yield to God, who created all human selves including you. This ain’t easy for us sinners. It is a lifetime quest even for the best. (And I’m a poet and don’t know it. I rhyme every time.)

Steve Gibbons Band Natural thing
It’s been a long time since American liberals gave the biblical God more than lip service, and now not even that.
Lip service? They have turned their back.
I stand before you lowly sinner.
The “natural thing” for us in our condition is to sin, like the song seems to be getting at although its sympathies seem to be in the sinward direction. God is strange to us at first. God insists we not be satisfied with the sinning nature, which would not be fitted for heaven, but that we regain a holy nature as human souls were originally created to have before humanity fell.
I’m looking at history back a few hundred years, back to Thomas Jefferson who was in a sense the spiritual father of what we know now as liberals/Democrats. He was of a semi-agnostic bent and he was ambivalent about the bible, thinking it needed to be whittled down. Not orthodox by any means, but at that point in history not willing to chuck it all out either.
The song is a bit convoluted.
It hints at the natural thing while hinting at free sex.
A good song, The lesson is that it is not so simple yet it is simple
Speed kills uses a similar tact.
Rash decisions kill.
I like the line that says, “that’s what makes the birdies sing, that’s what keeps the jockey on his horse”.
It infers reverence and responsibility, work and determination.
Jefferson was alright.
We have always had these disagreements as to core beliefs.
I tend to like ol Ben Franklin and his love of life, his wonder of God.
Little has changed in the modern world.
I didn’t listen to the whole work so I can’t pretend to make a comprehensive commentary. The riff about “making you blind” seems to imply solitary vice which is a whole ‘nother issue of itself. Sex is dynamite and it’s easy to misdirect. The teachers, preachers, etc. may not have bothered to tell the boy WHY keep it clean, the idea as conceived by God is not to put the kibosh on sex as such (that would be quite wrong) but to keep it to use for a holy purpose. You wouldn’t cram the gas tank of your 4x4 full of mud, you wouldn’t put cat pee in its crankcase. That way, it can best do what it ought to do.
I just liked the way Gibbons brought these things to the forefront of thought.
Not a typical top 40 pop song.
This is kind of a country pop number. Country tends to be more realistic than the normal pop pablum. I’m not blaming it for being unreal, only that the cosmological perspective seemed to be incomplete. Nature is there, it does things in a certain way, and it is flawed. You might begin there, but if you hitch up to God, you don’t end there. You end outside of it, or better put, in a different sort of nature.
Ah.. The Holy Spirit!
What is the holy spirit? Nanny statism? No.
IMHO opinion the Holy spirit is gentle, nudging and kind.
We leave a better impression when we are kind and not accusing.
At any rate we could discuss these matters for all of eternity and never find the simple solution that would make the world happy.
