Kirsten Powers: Obama Ignores Fox at News Conferences 'Because He Doesn't Want to be Embarrassed'

Fox News Watch host Jon Scott on Saturday asked his guests why President Obama typically ignores Fox News at his rare press conferences.

Kirsten Powers smartly answered, "Because he doesn't want to be embarrassed" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Kirsten Powers: Obama Ignores Fox at News Conferences 'Because He Doesn't Want to be Embarrassed'

JON SCOTT, HOST: Eric Ostermeier - to go to your point, Judy - at the University of Minnesota put together a piece called “Fox Still Shunned at Obama Press Conferences.” “A smart politics analysis,” he writes, “finds that ABC reporters have been called on the most frequently during Barack Obama’s solo news conferences followed by CBS, the Associated Press, and NBC with Fox News coming in at a distant ninth in less than half of the rate of the top outlets, less than 40 percent of the press conferences overall.” Why does the president not like to call on us?

KIRSTEN POWERS: Because he doesn't want to be embarrassed, really. Because when he's asked a question, the same way, you know, when Ed Henry asks questions in the, to Jay Carney, inevitably Jay Carney ends up looking stupid because he doesn't know how to answer the question. He’s used to pushing people around, and you know, it will be tenacious, he’ll get asked about something he doesn't want to get asked about, and he wants softballs.

Indeed.

Why call on Fox when the representatives there from virtually every other so-called news organization are on his team and wouldn't dare do anything that might challenge him?

For those interested, here's the UM analysis Scott referred to.

I don’t know whether to be happy that Kirsten Powers answered so well, or to be depressed because she is now one of the more sensible staffers at Fox - given the Krauthammer and some others have just gone off the deep end....

“Kirsten Powers has never really held a conservative stance. She’s very much GOPe.”

Kirsten Powers is a Democrat, not a Republican. Never was a Republican.

.
Always remember that the Krauthammers and other “conservative” commentators on TV and radio, first of all, want to keep their lucrative jobs. They have to eat, you know.

This means that they are willing to compromise their moral or immoral principles as the situation demands.

GWB used to call on Helen Thomas all the time despite knowing that she would ask a loaded question with false choices.

GWB didn’t hide from the media, unlike Commander Zero who hides behind children and the skirts of women.

She is very liberal in heart and is one of those who publicly denounced Palin as being one of those right wingers. She must be getting soaked from first hand behind the scenes of her own party; by their gloating and gloating to where she said the truth. Or perhaps a little tipsy due to the celebrations she is attending. She will be brought in for saying this. She has slipped before. I don’t see a quality of reason to show her respect since she endorses mostly what Obama is doing.

I like her. She’s an honest liberal. She calls O on this s-t quite frequently and she is rightly concerned about his overreaching.

Yes, some days, I do miss GW. I still think he is a good man just was misguided. Just wished he had been more in tune with his base but once they get in; they all seem to do what the party bosses say. Kinda explains why they will not endorse a conservative candidate. The dems must be on party watch high-they can do most anything while our side does nothing much. What is one of the most depressing pieces of this overreach we see; there is no opposition to it.

Obama ought not be worried about Fox News embarrassing him. Its the judgement of history that should concern him. Tonight at least seven hard working Americans have been slaughtered by terrorists. Another stunning failure of his bad foreign policy. Whatever happened to the capabilities of the CIA, NSA, State Dept. and the rapid deployment forces of the Defense Dept. Poor leadership has consequences.

Yes; Obama hates looking the 'fool', for sure. He is also a vindictive sob; who takes great pleasure in poking - in both eyes - those who do not play by his rules. And the pleasure he gets from this; far outweighs any personal downside per 'random criticism'.

An altogether; unfortunate 'piece of work' is Obama. To America's greatest detriment; our Military; whatever friends we 'had' in the world; and certainly; America's collective future.

OMG; all so painfully, pathetic.

She is definitely a liberal Democrat. The difference is she does not suffer from the Obama Worshiper disease. Her opinion of him is about the same as mine, the difference being she considers him a useful tool. I just consider him a tool.

If she is truly honest, she would not be a liberal.

She is just someone who wants to be on TV wanting to make a living. If conservatism would be in vogue, she would sing a different tune.

Nothing wrong with that but don’t make her out to be a deep thinker.

Deep thinkers are never on TV — they would have to share time with Kim Kardashian.

This is a problem which I will not join in. Liberal operatives getting a spell over conservatives. She has said she is for Obamacare. She is for Gay marriage, government run abortion clinics paid by us. She is for not assisting Israel. She is for gay rights, gay adoptions, gay military. She supports UN having more control in our lives. She supports God being taken out of schools for the minority who feel upset. On and on.
