‘Voice of the Pope’ backs Obama gun edicts

In an editorial aired yesterday on Vatican Radio, Fr. Federico Lombardi, director of the press office of the Holy See, called “initiatives announced by the United States government in view of limiting and controlling the diffusion and use of arms … a step in the right direction.

“Forty-seven religious leaders of various confessions and religions have issued a call to American politicians to limit firearms, which ‘are making society pay an unacceptable price in terms of massacres and senseless deaths,’” Lombardi stated in his address. “I’m with them.”

While acknowledging “that arms, throughout the world, are also instruments for legitimate defense,” and even admitting “No one can be under the illusion that limiting their number and use would be enough to impede horrendous massacres in the future,” Lombardi nonetheless asserted “it is necessary to repeat tirelessly our calls for disarmament, to oppose the production, trade, and smuggling of arms of all types.

The Vatican isn’t about the individual and his rights. It is about fleecing the peons and trying to assert itself as supreme authority in their lives. That’s why the Vatican is so rich while so many of its faithful are so desperately poor.

Baloney, he spoke for the pope, unless i hear the pope fire him, discipline him, or force him disavow his opinion from that of the pope’s.

Why?

“In an editorial aired yesterday on Vatican Radio, Fr. Federico Lombardi, director of the press office of the Holy See”

He is the Press office director of the Vatican. It’s a little far out to think that in a disciplined organization like that, in the position he holds, that he is out freelancing opinions -in editorials- that are in direct oppositon to those of the pope.
If he doesn’t release something fast saying “this was my opinion, and i was wrong” or “the pope supports the American freedoms that saved the Vatican and millions of catholics from the nazis”. Then i think it’s safe to assume the pope shares his opinion.

Well, having read the FR Religion Forum, I can assure everyone of these things:

* the spokesman has been poorly catechized
* the spokesman does not speak for The Church
* the sources reporting this are lying
* y’all are just Catholic haters

That should clear up any confusion!

Good isn’t attracted to evil and never agrees with it; only evil is attracted to evil and agrees with it with no problem voicing it to the world - even when it’s none of his business.

On opinion, plain and simple, and a European one, at that. It’s not a teaching of the Church.

Have you heard of any RECENT incidents of priests abusing altar boys? Probably not, because the Church put safeguards in place over ten years ago to keep it from happening again. There may still be stories of cases from years ago, but likely not many from recent years.

I say if the Dems want to make millions of gun owners instant criminals with new gun laws, then the gloves are off. I got a new law to pass as well.

In the Cold War it was referred to as parallel escalation: All abortion classified as murder, and immediate termination of all planned parenthood abortion activities. “...if it will save just one life”

As well as the fact it is the right thing to do. In fact it will save 3000 lives a day, and the income tax those babies will produce will help pay for social security and Medicare in thirty years.

too bad. but old school catholics (friends of mine) will tell you that their church has undergone a decades long leftist subversion, leaving people like this in postions of power. it’s going to take a while for these people to wash out.

That’s no surprise, especially while renegade Romans in the USA have established disproportionate numbers in politics and are pushing to disarm Americans.

Yep, Bishop Finn acted stupidly, but this isn't a situation that went on for years with the Bishop covering for him. Finn made the same mistake too many other Bishops made. He didn't take it seriously enough, thinking the priest was just looking at pornography, and didn't involve actual contact with children.

Thankfully, others were more diligent; the priest was suspected by teachers, and turned in by a fellow priest, so the system that was put in place worked, and Ratigan got what was coming to him.

There goes the Ctholic Church again - straying away from the one goal it should have and meddling in areas that show how humanly fallible the “leaders” of it are.

Give this conservative Pope credit, he is appointing much more conservative bishops. That is a start.
