East Windsor gun store under fire after man caught stealing rifle

EAST WINDSOR, CT (WFSB) - A gun store in East Windsor where at least one of the weapons used in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting was sold was raided Thursday night.

Adam Lanza had two pistols and the AR-15 when he entered Sandy Hook Elementary School Friday morning, and in just a matter of minutes, he fired multiple rounds, killing 20 children and six adults. Before the school shooting, he shot his mother four times.

Riverview Gun Sales is the same store where police believe a different man stole an assault weapon and was trying to carry out a similar attack.

In a video obtained by Eyewitness News, Jordan Marsh, 26, of South Windsor, can be seen stealing an AR-15 with a scope just four days earlier.

Red cap will only shoot blanks. Take it off, and it'll shoot 223 rounds.

I'm calling BS on this one. No such a thing.

“No FFL dealer in his right mind would be that sloppy about inventory control.”

This gun dealer is supposedly one of the largest in the state. It’s hard to believe they would be jeopardizing their business with sloppy inventory.

It looks like they had their license pulled:

YES

orange tip means its NOT capable of firing ammo that is used in a “regular” gun.

Airsoft, bee bee, water have orange tips.

Blank cartridges are frequently used in the military to allow realistic training exercises.

Rifles such as AR-15s and M-14s are gas-operated semi-automatic. The expanding gases which propel the bullet down the barrel are used to retract the bolt, eject the used shell casing, and load another live cartridge into the chamber, making the rifle ready to fire with another trigger pull.

These rifles have a small hole near the muzzle which directs gas into the space in the rifle where the expanding gases create the force to actuate the bolt.

In an M-14, and probably an AR-15 as well, the pressure created by a normal cartridge is sufficient to operate the mechanism, but the pressure provided by a BLANK cartridge is often not enough (because the gas starts venting from the muzzle immediately and less powder is used in blank ammo) and the rifle will tend not to cycle properly when firing blanks.

The solution that I am familiar with was used with an M-14 and was called a "blank-firing adapter". This was a device which attached to the muzzle and blocked much of the gas from venting so that the pressure would be higher when firing blanks and the rifle would cycle properly.

A serious problem would develop if a soldier neglected to remove the adapter and attempted to fire real ammunition, probably resulting in destruction of the rifle and great potential for injury.

For this reason, the adapters are made somewhat larger than necessary to do the job and they are painted bright red.

Sorry, but your post is way off the point.

The point is that “Airsoft” rifles cannot fire bullets, blanks or not. They fire 5mm plastic pellets.

Fine. If you see what looks like an AR-15 with something red on the end of the muzzle, then you should just assume that it is an airsoft gun.

In my case, I will be open to the possibility that it is a true AR-15 equipped with a blank-firing adapter.

Perhaps that is the point that the other poster was trying to make to you.

The butt of the gun he is carrying out looks more like the Crosman airsoft rifles than an AR 15. Have you looked at the video? They show the guy taking the gun from different angles on two surveillance videos.

Neither of the two guns they show on the table are the gun that he took out of the store.

I meant that the butt was not the same as the second gun on the table in the video they display, right after the second surveillance video shown. And it could be an Crosman airsoft rifle.
