Japan Threatens To Fire On Chinese Fighters — China Says 'There Will Be No Second Shot'

When Chinese and Japanese fighters met for the first time over disputed islands in the East China Sea earlier this month, Japan promptly declared its right to fire tracers at China's jets.

Though met with outrage by China at the time, Japan continues promoting the live firing which Chinese military academics are calling the "first shot."

“Every country has procedures for how to deal with a violation of its territory that continues after multiple cautionary measures,” Japanese Defense Minister Itsunori Onodera said Wednesday when asked if tracer shots would be fired against intruding aircraft that refuse to change course. “We have response measures ready that are consistent with global standards.”

If Japan is using the talk of tracer fire to gauge Chinese reaction, the tactic worked.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry said Sunday his country is on "high alert" and that Japan and the U.S. are ignoring the fact that "the islands are China’s inherent territory."

Never to be left out, Chinese military academics quoted in Beijing's state-run media provided far more fiery replies:

“Japan’s desire to fire tracer warning shots as a way of frightening the Chinese is nothing but a joke that shows the stupidity, cruelty and failure to understand their own limitations,” Maj. Gen. Peng Guangqian of the Chinese Academy of Military Sciences was quoted saying by the China News Service and other state media.

“Firing tracer bullets is a type of provocation; it’s firing the first shot,” he said. “Were Japan to dare to fire tracers, which is to say fire the first shot, then China wouldn’t stint on responding and not allow them to fire the second shot.”

If Japan keeps confronting the dragon, it needs to shed its restrictions about developing offensive military capabilities including nuclear weapons.

The good news for Japan is that if Chinese weapons are anything like Chinese power tool, Japan has nothing to worry about.

China is serious, and Japan should...

1. Change name of Maritime Self Defense Force to NAVY

2. Announce plans for a carrier

3. Do away with “defense out to 1,000 mile marker”

4. Try to perform some joint exercises with South Korea

5. Station their people on the islands with AA assets

I’ll bet they started development when Obama failed to respond to the North Korean Cheonan Incident. When they saw that there was no I-got-your-back coverage for our long-time ally South Korea every American ally took notice and started developing nuclear weapons. I know I would. Japan will work through the political issues later. In the meantime, look for them to explode demonstration nuke at a propitious moment.

The Chinese aren’t stupid, and there is a butt load of bad blood for the Japanese throughout east Asia (historical karma).

The Japanese had best be prepared and not count on American help. Obama will side with his fellow communists.

What makes you think that they haven't?

So the PLA gets all of its stuff from Harbor Freight?

I think China is spoiling for a conflict because their economy is about to collapse and without war they will most certainly collapse....

I've never heard of tracer ammunition that didn't have the destructive power of regular ammunition.

Is it okay if we only kill them with T, instead of just APIT ammunition, sir?

Japan has fired the first shot in a war without warning against Russia and the United States. The PRC better be prepared.

If Japan is wise they will stir up the Uyghurs, then obama won't know whether to support fellow muslims or fellow communists...

Japan is a six-day nuclear power. They have delivery vehicles, they have nuclear tech. The only thing they haven’t done is assembled a device. According to some reports, it would take Japan six days at most to assemble a device, stick it on top of one of their space program’s rockets, and send someone the unwelcome wagon card.

Not to worry, Japan has a secret weapon, a weapon more terrible than anything made by man.

Waiting, in the depths of the Pacific ocean - just waiting, waiting for the right moment to reveal itself.

This will happen when the time is right.

No one messes with Japan and gets away with it.

Both Nations want war—or near-war to distract their people from all the problems they are having—but a full fleded conflict isn’t in the cards—Fighting with an appeal to Obama and the UN to reach a peace? Deaths in the dozens—not thousands or millions. Maybe—Obama can earn his Peace Prize at long last.
