Laura Lauria has given the Flagler County School District enough money to cover the costs of keeping a deputy at Old Kings Elementary School for two months. And Superintendent Janet Valentine said Lauria has agreed to cover the costs -- $22,000 through the end of the year.
"We want people to come forward and solve problems," said Valentine. "It's the power of one. We appreciate that."
There are six resource deputies at the county's high school and middle schools. Officials have considered putting deputies at two elementary schools, but say the costs are prohibitive.

She could send the kid to a private school for that kind of money.

She obviously has the money. I think she spent it wisely.
Everyone knows if the elementary school in Newtown had an armed guard, there was a much better chance for those kids and teachers. She is helping to protect the 2nd amendment.
Good for her.

Yes, she could send him to a private school, but she is helping the rest of us. And many of the private schools are teaching the same garbage as the public schools. I'm sure the Obama girls are getting lessons on how bad conservatives are and that we are all right wing terrorists.

Do all private schools have armed guards? Do you think they should?
Do you think schools should have the same atmosphere as detention facilities?

Do you think schools should have the same atmosphere as detention facilities? I believe they are government facilities, and yes, their "inmates" are detained.
The question is, what is proper procedure to ensure that incarceration is survivable.

The question is, what is proper procedure to ensure that incarceration is survivable. Homeschooling.
I don't want my kids going to prison-preparatory institutions.
Evidently you do.

I support homeschooling. I have to wonder at your mental capacity if you thought I was praising public schools in my post.
To: Daffynition
Our homeschool has an armed “security guard”, two when my husband’s home. And I don’t even have to pay 22k for it.
Hmm, I wonder... you know, the NRA could make some overtures to the homeschool community. Maybe free concealed carry or safety courses at homeschool conventions. Because if there’s one group of activists as ready for a fight as 2nd amendment types, it’s homeschoolers. We shut down switchboards for fun. Yeah, there’s some overlap between the two groups but there’s a lot of room for growth.
