City wants to know if gun he used was legal. D.C. police are investigating whether a man will face criminal charges for shooting a pit bull that was attacking a child in his neighborhood.
The incident unfolded Sunday afternoon, after three pit bulls attacked an 11-year-old boy as he rode his bicycle through the Brightwood neighborhood of Northwest, according to a police report.
When the man, a neighbor, saw the boy being mauled by the dogs, he went inside his home and got a gun. The man killed one of the dogs. The gunfire attracted the attention of a police officer in the area near Eighth and Sheridan streets, where the attack occurred. The officer responded and shot the other two pit bulls as they continued to attack the boy.

No good deed goes unpunished.
Of course this is what happens when communities are governed by assholes.
Seriously, take the "questioners" out back and beat on them for a while. An attitude adjustment is in order here.

Thank God he didn’t shoot a criminal. That would be...well...criminal.
District of Corruption “common sense” gun laws.
This is why it's being investigated.
Everyone needs to understand the unique problem faced by DC that means they do indeed need very tough gun control laws. You see, there is a -huge- concentration of politicans there who are imposing their will upon the people.
They need a safe “green zone” where they can feel safe from the people they are busy trying to enslave.
If they did not have such a law, they would be forced to make sure they were treating the people and the constitution with profound respect.
Very good point. Imagine if you would, these politicians having to walk home unprotected after putting on the table a law destroying the Bill of Rights like they did today.
I understand, the guy should have just let the pit bulls eat the kid and he wouldn’t have gotten in trouble.
When you have three pit bulls mauling a kid it isn’t easy to just hit the dogs. sometimes the bullet will go thru the dog. If the kid were mine I would thank the man who saved my child’s, the foot will heal.
In DC???? He might get 10 years.
Cops are just pissed they didnt get to shoot the dog...
Is the unidentified neighbor hailed as a hero? No just the opposite he apparently needs a lawyer because he is reportedly under investigation for violating our capital citys firearms laws! You see he may have discharged his weapon beyond his property line. Talk about no good deed going unpunished.
Every single day, Americans use guns to save lives but we do not hear about these incidents on the evening newsand thats mostly because the gun only has to be brandished and the bad guy takes flight. Just not considered news. Another reason is media biasas the past few days illustrate. Yesterday, CNN had full coverage of a gun crime in Houston. This storycivilian uses gun to save an 11-year olds lifeonly a few paragraphs back in the metro section of the newspaper.
Whether or not the prosecutors file charges here, DC laws need to changeso residents dont have to hope for good sense to prevail (while paying attorneys fees). House Republicans do have jurisdiction over DC affairs so heres an opportunity to send a bill to the presidents desk to get the needed changes in place.
To draw more attention to how often Americans use guns in self-defense, Cato published this paper and created this self-defense map.
Per the Washington ComPost: “He(the boy’s Uncle”) also said his nephew was struck in the left foot by a bullet; police said they had no record that either a shot fired by the officer or the neighbor struck the boy.
A police spokesman would not say whether the gun was legally registered. Even if it was, using it on a D.C. street is illegal. But David Benowitz, a defense lawyer who handles D.C. gun cases, said prosecuting such a case could be problematic because the attack appeared to have occurred near the shooters property line.
It is by no means clear that the neighbor shot is responsible, it could have been the popo. It is also not clear that the kid’s foot was actually hit.
But you can damn bet they’ll try to shift the focus onto the citizen if they can.
Cop on a bike heard the shots and came and shot the remaining two dogs.
Well, I’ll tell youall, if you see me being mauled by 3 pit bulls fell free to shoot me in the foot to save my life. Also the article said they had to investigate weather it happened on his property, or he could be charged for illegal carry. So, if someone needs saving they better hope they’re in the right place.
It’s because shooting dogs is in the domain of cops. Only cops can indiscriminately shoot family dogs.
I’d be curious to know if the boy’s parents are going to sue him.I’m sure they will be encouraged.
