Sen. Rand Paul (R., Ky.) posed contentious questions to Kerry about the U.S.s role on the world stage. It quickly became apparent that the two senators not only had different political opinions, but different world views. Rand seems to see the world in absolutes; Kerry maintains intervention in world affairs be judged on a case-by-case basis.
Paul, who was publicly critical of President Obamas authorizing U.S. action in Libya to help depose Mohamar Gadhafi, wanted to know Kerrys take on a presidents authorizing military action without congressional approval. Kerry responded that, although he is a strong supporter of the War Powers Act, which requires the president to seek congressional authority to declare war, he also supports the right of a president to act in an emergency.
I supported Ronald Reagan when he sent troops into Grenada. I supported George H.W. Bush when he sent troops into Panama. I supported President Clinton when, against the will of the Congress, he did what was needed to be done in Kosovo and Bosnia, so forth. And in this particular instance, I think the president behaved in that tradition, said Kerry.
Paul suggested Kerry is cherry-picking the Constitution. He pointedly asked Kerry to defend his anti-war stance in the 1970s against Richard Nixons decision to bomb Cambodia, on the one hand, and President Obamas actions in Libya on the other. Kerry responded that the circumstances of the conflicts were different: Vietnam had been waging for years without Congressional approval, unlike the situation in Libya.
Paul was unmoved.
Length of time, but similar circumstances: a bombing campaign unauthorized by Congress, he said. See, the Constitution really doesnt give this kind of latitude to sometimes go to war and sometimes not go to war.

You also supported G. W. Bush when he invaded Iraq John............
Attacking Clinton? LOL, so now appropriate and constitutional Congressional oversight of the Executive Branch is an “attack?” The US news media REALLY needs cult deprogramming to break free of the Obama and Clinton thrall.
Someone needs to publicly summarize the last 4 years of Clinton and Obama’s policy in the Middle East. I think Rand Paul is the guy to do it.
Libya has been turned into Somalia - a country in name only, where warring factions, with no Government where terrorists roam free. Al Qaeda is operating with impunity in North Africa. Students and the middle class held wide-scale, peaceful protests in Iran, but Obama could not say a single word in their defense. The new leader of Egypt, who has Obama’s full support, has assumed dictatorial powers for himself, and publicly calls Christians and Jews “pigs and apes.” Syria is in the midst of a brutal civil war, which if there were proportional casualties in the United States, would have killed 1,000,000 people.
And people thought Bush screwed up and misunderstood the Middle East?
Clinton and Obama are angels of chaos and death.
Rand, you meany......
I think Kerry was in Vietnam. He’s got a piece of rice, or something, in his a$$. ‘Got a Purple Heart for it.
Johnny, you also supported G. W. Bush when he invaded Iraq ............
I believe Kerry was in VietNam for 4 months
I believe he received 3 purple hearts - all self inflicted !

Note only the Tea Party senators ask the pointed questions and don’t fawn all over the nominee or the public official. This is why they don’t want any more to get elected. Because it means an end to all the “my good friend from Massachusetts” crap.
Republicans to get rid of in 2014: McConnell, Cornyn, Alexander, Collins, Chambliss, Graham, Enzi, Cochrane.
Democrats seats to go after in 2014: Rockefeller’s open seat, Hagen, Pryor, Begich, Shaheen, Levin if he retires, Franken, Warner and possibly Bauchus.
Oh noes, did Rand Paul get two pairs of panties in a bunch this week and it is not even friday yet......
Rand Paul is really starting to show himself as a leader this week.
I think soon the Dims will start attacking him, of course had they wait till After the midterms it would damage paul more for any future presidential run.
I can almost sense the fear the socialists have when the word RAND is mentioned and it used to be “Ayn Rand” but now it is “Rand, Paul”. His daddy may have been a couple fruit loops short of a balanced breakfast, but when he named his son the man was a god blessed prophet of sorts.

Rand Paul appears to be the only GOP leader in Washington. He is making Rubio and Ryan look like a real lightweights. Boner and McConnell are completely worthless.
Not throwing softballs = attacking.
Rand is one of the few in washington who wants to “de-fund” our enemies.
This is why they fear and hate him.
Washington is a viper’s nest of our enemies these days.
Rand is proving himself to have Walker/Palin caliber brass.
Sen Paul “attacks” Clinton seems a bit of an exaggeration but ABC “news” employees are more used to how Democrat senators behaved: Democrat Senators gushed, “Oh, this is such a blessing to see you, Madam Secretary! Thank you for taking time outta your day! (gasping) Ohhhhhhh, gracious god! Thank you so much! Oh! (gasping for air). Thank you! Thank you.. er, what are we here for, Mr. Chairman? . . . .”.
Kudos to Paul.
Good synopsis.
