Paul Ryan urges unity, prudence among conservative ranks at National Review conference

Paul Ryan laid out his vision for the Republican Party’s next four years in a morning address to the National Review Institute Summit on the future of conservatism in America.

Ryan argued that Republicans should lay out their plans with even more detail now that they are the entrenched opposition.

Republicans will have to oppose “big government in practice” and not just in theory, he predicted. Obamacare is no longer just a 2,000 page bill, but 12,000 pages of regulations, he said to illustrate his point.

“We will have to convince the country to change course” by contrasting conservative ideas with the president’s policies, he said. “We have to show that, if given the chance, we can govern. We have the ideas.”

“We will win back the trust of the American people,” he said.

He said that the president will try to divide conservatives, especially in the House majority, but he urged conservatives to resist the potential for infighting.

“We have to stay united.”

Ryan also urged Republicans to be prudent in their governance. “Prudence is good judgment in the art of governing,” he said.

“Our founders were men of prudence,” he said. James Madison supported the Constitution despite the fact that several of his ideas were not incorporated into the final document, Ryan said. “We are the living beneficiaries of Madison’s prudence,” Ryan argued.

Looking at Republicans’ opportunity for policy reform, Ryan said that Republicans will have to oppose the growth of the administrative state in Washington, but the states are the “frontlines of reform.”

“I’m not ready to give up, and I know you’re not either,” he said to the crowd, which gave him a standing ovation at the end of his remarks.

RE :” By the time Boner and Rubio get through making all the illegals citizens and adding them to the food stamp and Medicaid roles, it won’t make any difference anyway because there won’t be anything left to balance.

Correct.
Even worse is ‘path to vote’. Newt was on CBS FTN this morning once again claiming that the GOP must give in on that because of Hispanic voters, like all the others he never claims that illegals will vote for Republicans given the chance and no one asks him.
Once the GOP goes with giving them the vote you can bet that more preaching to the GOP to chance will follow,

Ryan was on NBC MTP this morning using pretty rhetoric about immigration reform without saying anything.

RE :” So prudence was what caused some of them to vote for the $60 Billion pork bill for Sandy?

That was Fear,
but since many of the ‘principled conservatives’ who voted against it voted FOR similar past pork hurricane aid bills when it gave money to their own districts I couldn't get worked up about it.

Down on Main Street the citizenry still think there is a govt "of the people, by the people and for the people." Nonsense. The citizenry are a petty nuisance to Official Washington.

Pols represent themselves---the wealthy Permanent Political Class. Capitol Hill insiders are busy feathering their own nests----salivating over pages and pages of their holdings-----passing bills that increase their financial status.....w/ timeout for sex, trips, vacations, dining at five-star restaurants, and the like.

===============================================

REFERENCE A Fox-TV special showcased Offical Washington living large---Congressmen (and their extended families as high paid lobbyists), rolling in dough, sipping the finest wines, driving luxury cars. One citizen on a Carribean cruise, saw a luxury beachfront mansion--supposedly "owned" by VP Joe Biden's brother---Air Force Two is frequently seen flying in. (Biden is in charge of the hundreds of billions of federal stimulus.)

BOOK---THROW THEM ALL OUT (how Official Washington gets rich on insider deals) by Peter Schweitzer. BOOK REVIEW: the full story of the inside game in Washington shows how the permanent political class enriches itself at the expense of the rest of us.

(1) Insider trading is illegal on Wall Street, yet it is routine among members of Congress. (2) Normal individuals cannot get in on IPOs at the low asking price, but politicians do so routinely. (3) The Obama administration has been able to funnel hundreds of millions of dollars to its supporters, ensuring yet more campaign donations. (4) An entire class of investors now makes all of its profits based on influence and access in Washington.

Author Schweitzer has doggedly researched mountains of financial records, tracking complicated deals and stock trades---and traced them back to Congressional briefings, votes on bills, and numerous profitable points of leverage used by cunning DC politicians. Official Washington has all its greedy fingers in the bloated federal budget pie.

HERE'S HOW THE LOBBYING SCAM WORKS Sen Menendez (D-nj) is under FBI scritiny for partying with underaged prosties in the Third World---AND he mentored an illegal Peruvian sexual predator in his office on Capitol Hill.

Now, Senator' Menendez's live-in has a lobbying group. Anybody that wants Menendez's attention HAS to hire his live-ins lobbying group, where they are instructed where to send campaign contributions, tribute to the Senator......like sure-thing investment tips.

The SEC, FBI and the IRS might look at Sen Menendez's legislative initiatives and find a roadmap to (1) his campaign contributors, (2) the lobby income, (3) the investment portfolio in the gal-pal's name. The SEC, FBI and IRS need to determine the tax bite, income, and holdings of Menendez's gal-pal.
