Enjoy the schadenfreude!: College professors face layoffs because of Obamacare

The excited grins we saw in the sea of faces at Barack Obama’s second Inauguration told us we lost and the socialists won. They made sure we understood that. Liberal talking heads on television and radio as well as in print and in the blogosphere have been taunting us since November and there is no reason to think they will stop any time soon. Their jobs are now safe for as far as the eye can see. Nevertheless, at least large segment of Obama supporters are learning that elections have consequences and being on the winning side doesn’t guarantee good times ahead. America’s college professors, especially adjunct (part time non-tenured) professors are “getting it” now.

Harvard University’s Center for Responsive Politics has complied data on the political leanings of those who teach at America’s colleges. It reports that on average college faculties donate to Democrats over Republicans by a rate of 4 to 1, but in some schools that rate goes up to 99% as in the College of William and Mary.

It’s been just two months since Obama received their money and their votes but already many of these professors are learning real life economic lessons courtesy of the provisions of Obamacare.

The stories of colleges beginning to cut back teaching hours for their adjunct professors (the foot soldiers of America’s higher education industry), are making their way to public knowledge.

In December, only a month after he most likely voted for Barack Obama, an adjunct professor at an Ohio school, opened a letter telling him that “in order to avoid penalties under the Affordable Care Act… employees with part-time or adjunct status will not be assigned more than an average of 29 hours per week.”

The cut will cost him $2,000.00 a year, and this guy crying that he can’t afford the cut. Gee aint that a terrible thing?

He and the rest of the pipe smoking elbow patch crowd at the faculty lounge loved the results of the election. They had such a wonderful feeling of superiority at being able to vote for a Black progressive even if he is a terrible president because he is a fellow liberal Democrat. Alas reality has given them a rude awakening.

They have destroyed our country. All we have left is the schadenfreude we can feel looking at these people. Let’s enjoy it.

Perhaps now some of the over paid full status professors now will actually have to appear in classes and teach or lead them.

I’m not sure it’s even unintended by those in power, they want enough people out there screaming for “single payer” completely socialised “health” care. Rising rates, uninsured people, people laid off due to rising rates, all will contribute to this end, if it is indeed their goal, which I believe it is.

“The cut will cost him $2,000.00 a year, and this guy crying that he can’t afford the cut. Gee aint that a terrible thing? “

And what’s even worse for this ‘professor’ is,now that the college is cutting his hours to avoid having to provide health care, he’s going to have to provide his own ‘mandated’ health care or be fined by the government.

Hey libs. Reality sucks doesn’t it?

lol!

I call them "surface thinkers", because they aren't able to look below the surface of an issue. That is what most democrats are too, since, it's just about an Obamaphone, without thinking or worrying about why that's not good for the country or for them.

I will gloat over this only when it affects “tenured” professors.

But, but, but...surely those tenured professors who WORSHIP the _resident and who ADORE “spreading the wealth” will willingly sign up to donate 50% of their salaries to help those less fortunate.

LOL!!!!

They’ll probably want o’care to kill them off now that they are non-productive users of medical care.

“Academics” I meet are often the most narrow-minded, reactionary, and ideological people I meet. Not one leftist professor will change his views when confronted by this in their own lives.

This is a wonderful example of the law of unintended consequences, the one law which should be taught in liberal law schools, but isn’t.

Yes, cause and effect, not only in law, but in all disciplines, their is course in logic no cultural common sense, and no critical thinking anymore.

I had the privilege in another career what seems eon's ago, to sit in on a meeting where a brilliant engineer took the lead on a "what-if" retrofit to an aerospace product and I'll leave it at that. It was a mental, verbal, and written fishbone chart over 125 items of what if's that could make the device sink or swim.

Was it President Calvin Coolidge who was an engineer that quipped something to the effect and engineer's work stands as a testament of his success or failure ( especially in bridges :-)).

These Professors saw the everyone's covered, no pre-existing conditions, college kids to 26 on Mom and Dad's policy etc and didn't see the inner workings of this beast, what is scarier they are teaching our kids and didn't do the critical thinking of the cause and effect!

I just drove on a road to see the cause and effects of; Geitner, Bernake, The Community Redevelopment Act, and Obama's last 4 yrs and the 20 years of the CRDA. It was Strip malls vacant at an alarming rate over a 2 to 3 mile stretch which means small business aren't making it, a Chrysler Dealer lot, now closed for over 4 years, and a ATV store that carried multiple lines, and employed many, all closed up with a building for lease sign...

Recovery my @$$....

He can always get a job at Wal-Mart or a gas station. I’m sure he could make $2,000 per year part time. But I’m sure he feels too good to actually work.

Actually I’d say the reverse is true. Liberals love abstraction and nuance. It enables them to sound intelligent and more importantly it hides(so they think) what they really mean.

The situation varies a lot from one university to another. At the so-called research universities, professors may have very light teaching loads and a lot of the actual work of teaching is done by graduate students. At less-elite colleges and universities full professors may teach 3 or 4 courses a semester, and associate and assistant professors the same number.

This affects adjuncts who are often instructors who are paid poorly and teach part-time (either to supplement their income while something else is their main job or because they want to stay in academia and that's the best they can find).
