Krauthammer: We have ‘a Statue of Liberty — it’s not a Statue of Equality’
The Daily Caller ^ | January 28, 2013 | Jeff Poor

Over the weekend, Washington Post columnist Charles Krauthammer spoke at the National Review Institute Summit in Washington, D.C. During a question-and-answer session, he was asked if he thought President Barack Obama would attempt to hand-pick his successor in order to help guide the country down a path to “socialism.” ...

Krauthammer said it was less important whether Obama chose his successesor and more crucial what kind of groundwork he would lay for him or her ...

Krauthammer urged conservatives to make a case for liberty and its benefits in order to defeat the President’s agenda ...

Too bad Krauthammer is more of a rubber mallet on some critical Liberty issues.

What the h$ll is equality anyway...I suspect it is simply a buzzword (a shibboleth even) for identifying Socialists.

Hey Obama, we are not all the same. If you try to deform our society to make it appear that we are "equal"...you will fail.

As Vlad Putin told you, dumbass, socialism doesn't work.

Which ones? I've never noticed that in him.

Did you read the part of the article where Krauthammer talks about the use of the word “socialism”?

What is wrong with Krauthammer? Yes, let's be polite and call obama a social democrat.....Ummmmmmm, let's call him what he is - a socialist, a racist, a liar, a narcississt. Pravda calls him a communist.

He is a strong proponent of disarming the population.

Here is Charles Krauthammer in his own words, in 1996, in an essay: “Disarm the Citizenry. But not Yet”

Ultimately, a civilized society must disarm its citizenry if it is to have a modicum of domestic tranquillity of the kind enjoyed in sister democracies like Canada and Britain. Given the frontier history and individualist ideology of the United States, however, this will not come easily. It certainly cannot be done radically. It will probably take one, maybe two generations. It might be 50 years before the United States gets to where Britain is today.

Passing a law like the assault weapons ban is a symbolic — purely symbolic — move in that direction. Its only real justification is not to reduce crime but to desensitize the public to the regulation of weapons in preparation for their ultimate confiscation. Its purpose is to spark debate, highlight the issue, make the case that the arms race between criminals and citizens is as dangerous as it is pointless.

Equality is the goal. It is the necessary opposite of the fabricated injustice called inequality. Equality and inequality travel hand in hand; tied at the hip -you can not have one without the other. Equality is all about equal outcomes imposed by government rather than equal opportunities under the rule of law -where a difference in outcomes is considered an injustice requiring government redistributive action to make equal and 'just'.

Plain and simple -it is all about socialism.

Maybe since 1996 he has figured out that disarming the populace isn't such a good idea. If he even begins to see where Obama is trying to head as far as becoming a tyrant, he may have changed his tune. I'm not saying that I have any evidence that he has, but he seems to have had some kind of wake up call concerning how dangerous Obama is.

You win the prize! First place!

I am a Krauthammer fan and I've offered the "Krauthammer Challenge" dozens of times here on FR to his detractors. You are the first one to come up with a citation [an actual link!] that I had never heard of and which actually supports your position.

Thanks.

Now, all that said, this is from almost 17 years ago and I'd be interested to see if his opinion has changed. It may not have, in which case I would disagree with him. Krauthammer is, nonetheless, a very intelligent and articulate man.

It's always worth listening to his analyses of current events even if you disagree with his conclusions.

The only statute of equality that can be drawn the constitution is the statute of equality under the law. Obama’s redistribution scheme does not meet that standard.
