Congress passes $50.5B Superstorm Sandy aid bill

WASHINGTON (AP) — Three months after Superstorm Sandy ravaged coastal areas in much of the Northeast, Congress on Monday sent a $50.5 billion emergency relief measure for storm victims to President Barack Obama for his signature.

"I commend Congress for giving families and businesses the help they deserve, and I will sign this bill into law as soon as it hits my desk," Obama said in a statement late Monday.

Despite opposition from conservatives concerned about adding billions of dollars more to the nation's debt, the Senate cleared the long-delayed bill, 62-36, after House Republicans had stripped it earlier this month of spending unrelated to disasters. All 36 votes against the bill were from Republican senators.

Good for the 36 Republicans who said NO

And the Dems in NJ voted to make sure that nationwide taxpayer money only goes to the unions.

No method to fund it. “We do not have a spending problem”

It had to be passed in the house immediately so the senate could sit on it for a while.

Meanwhile Alan the psychopath Grayson is beating up on his republican colleagues for doing nothing.

Obama’s Hurricane Sandy Aid Bill is Nothing More than Pork … “Sandy-Scam”

” President Obama’s $60.4 billion request for Hurricane Sandy relief has morphed into a huge Christmas stocking of goodies for federal agencies and even the state of Alaska, The Post has learned.

The pork-barrel feast includes more than $8 million to buy cars and equipment for the Homeland Security and Justice departments. It also includes a whopping $150 million for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to dole out to fisheries in Alaska and $2 million for the Smithsonian Institution to repair museum roofs in DC.

An eye-popping $13 billion would go to “mitigation” projects to prepare for future storms.

Other big-ticket items in the bill include $207 million for the VA Manhattan Medical Center; $41 million to fix up eight military bases along the storm’s path, including Guantanamo Bay, Cuba; $4 million for repairs at Kennedy Space Center in Florida; $3.3 million for the Plum Island Animal Disease Center and $1.1 million to repair national cemeteries.

Budget watchdogs have dubbed the 94-page emergency-spending bill “Sandy Scam.”

This is the reason why Government should not be able to increase taxes on anyone. There is not a revenue problem, there is an spending problem and these people just won’t stop.”

Tried to find a list of Republicans who voted for it but apparently is not on the net yet. Apparently those from Alabama voted against it and are catching it from the libs!

Wow. Exactly why again is there a majority of GOP in the House? It doesn’t seem that they are there to put the brakes on anything like this pork loaded POS.

Fact, they seem to willingly handing over any/all opposition: debt ceiling, immigration, etc.

Apparently, from the article, a bunch of the pork was cut out. A good thing. THAT is a good thing. Why our guys don't get out and make sure this is known far and wide is utter galling to me. Our communication efforts are an F-minus (graded on a curve).

And a bunch of pork was left in.

If the fat hog Chris Christie ever campaigns in Iowa, I promise to have signs proclaiming that porker a welfare queen.

Three months and people without power restored? That could only happen where liberals are in charge.
