More than 1,000 citizens descended upon the state Capitol on Monday to voice their often-emotional views in the wake of the shooting massacre last month at a Newtown elementary school that brought out national calls for gun control.
Some speakers called for a ban on military-style assault weapons and high-caliber magazines that allowed killer Adam Lanza of Newtown to shoot 20 children and six educators by firing at least 150 shots in a span of about six minutes.
The public hearing, focusing on gun-control bills offered by legislators, lasted more than 12 hours and went past 11:30 p.m. Monday.
Barbara Richardson of Sandy Hook, whose son attended the Sandy Hook Elementary School, said that cars and ladders are all regulated by the federal government in an attempt to keep the general public safe.

WTF is a high-caliber magazine?
Dear Barbara, You might think guns aren't regulated by the federal government, but then again, it isn't a federal felony if a ladder or a car is 1/4" too short - like it is for rifles and shotguns.
The Hartford Courant is a terrible paper. They can not write a story without a slant.
Yo Barb, last I looked so are guns.
BAN CARS AND LADDERS!!!
They’ve been relentless since Sandy Hook.....day after day....page after page salivating at the thought of universally banning all guns....this is their Alinsky moment.
There’s more...if you dare ;): http://courantblogs.com/capitol-watch/gun-owners-opponents-clash-sharply-at-historic-hearing-at-state-capitol-complex/
A good guy with a gun didn’t kill 27 people at Sandy Hook.
All that has been enacted so far is to destroy Dr/Patient confidentiality.
The very people that passed the HIPPA laws used an executive order to destroy that confidentiality.
It’s pretty hard to pass laws against crazy, and I often think our legislators are crazy.
We have laws now that prevent the sale of fire arms to mentally disturbed people, but no way of enforcing it without getting into gray areas.
If some fellow loses his wife of 35 years and becomes clinically depressed and seeks prozac from his Dr.
Will the Dr turn him into the Feds and lose his 2ndA rights?
There are enough laws as it is, We cannot regulate away tragedy.
More people are hit by lighting each year that shot with evil assault rifles.
Ban Assault Legislation!!
“WTF is a high-caliber magazine?”
I guess it’s a magazine of exceptionally high quality. LOL
This whole thing reminds me of that Twilight Zone episode “The Monsters on Maple St”
Didn’t the CT State Police just announce that it might be 6 months before their investigation is complete. They got an extension on keeping records sealed.
So the legislators are going to “make sure this doesn’t happen again” before we even know “what happened”
I hear new BS everyday LOL
DIFI said that collapsible stocks when fully collapsed make a rifle “full auto”
Or that is what a caller on the radio said today.
Funny how messages devolve with rumor, “purple monkey dishwasher” (a Simpsons reference on rumor)
And any American can own any car or ladder.
Good point.
And if a gun has a chromed stock that makes it an El Camino! LOL
Funny how these hand wringers thing nothing of strapping their lid into a car over 25 ga of gasoline and head 70 mph down the road with on coming cars just a thin line between them, and think nothing of the risks.
That was brought up dozens of times in the testimony today by speakers. There was no *give-and-take* between the committee and people giving testimony. None.
The big concern, is that when the bills are in final form, there will be *no* opportunity for exchange or discussion.
In the words of one person giving testimony, *It’s a mess!*
