FBI Raids Offices of Menendez Donor Linked to Alleged Prostitution Scandal

The FBI has raided the offices of Dr. Salomon Melgen, an opthalmologist and Democratic Party donor reportedly connected to New Jersey Democratic Sen. Bob Menendez’s alleged solicitation of prostitutes in the Dominican Republic.

The Miami Herald reports:

FBI agents raided the West Palm Beach business of an eye doctor accused in the conservative press of providing free trips and even Dominican Republic prostitutes to New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez — who has denied what he calls the "fallacious allegations."

Agents gathered at the medical-office complex of Dr. Salomon Melgen, a contributor to Menendez and other prominent politicians, late Tuesday night to start hauling away potential evidence in about a dozen white vans.

The exact focus of the investigation is unclear, as is whether it is tied to Menendez, a Democrat. A spokesman for Menendez couldn’t be reached for comment, nor could Melgen.

Melgen has an outstanding IRS lien of $11.1 million, for taxes owed from 2006 to 2009, according to records filed with the Palm Beach County recorder’s office. A previous IRS lien for $6.2 million was released in 2011.

I’ll believe it when it’s covered by the Newark Star Ledger! ;-)

It may take a year, but I suspect that Bob will have to announce he’s leaving office as part of some plea bargain deal, and his seat will be up for the 2014 election (he just won the 2012 race). Now, I will add this comment....it will not surprise me if Chris Christie runs for the empty seat, and wins. As for Bob? Well....he’ll have to admit that he took some cash and free gifts, change his tax return for each year over the past four years, and probably walk away with a suspended sentence. He’ll board a plane at the end....flying into the Dominican Republic for an extended stay.

The corrupt Holder and his FBI had to jump on this and scoop up all the docs before congress got involved.
They have to get this guy Menendez cleaned up fast. He’s a Democrat senator, you know.

“Menendez, a Democrat.”

Nah; couldn’t be. A democrat involved in illegal, unethical activities? I’m shocked.

‘...New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez — who has denied what he calls the “fallacious allegations.”’

It would seem that today’s journalists don’t attend journalism school, and perhaps not college, either.

Clearly this writer can’t even spell, and the phrase he was attempting to form was ‘fellatious allegations.’

Dems blew it. They should have Torricellied him before the election and stuck in Corey Booker or any Democrat who is still breathing (sure to win in NJ) in as a place holder.

But it’s not a sure bet that Christie would appoint a Republican to hold the seat until the next election. He could decide to be bipartisan and appoint a Dem.

Note the last sentence. They couldn’t resist offering an excuse.

Was this the line:

“Prostitution in the Dominican Republic is not against the law.”

Ha! Looks like they already took it out as it turns out the Senate approved treaty prevents sex tourism if it’s illegal in the US.

Yes, that was the line.

It was the Menendez version of “it wasn’t really sex”.

So they took it out of the article. Probably won’t stop it from being repeated ad nauseum on the cable shows anyhow.
