RE :”I’m not gonna defend Rubio, we’ll wait and see how he plays it. BUT, you took his quote OUT of context. He was not talking about illegals opening businesses and then realize the cost of government, he was talking about legal Hispanics doing that, and then becoming Republican voters, thereby narrowing the GOP’s Hispanic deficit in elections.”’

Shortly afterward a post here gave me the opportunity to comment on it while re-posted the exact text of his answer.
SOL comment with Rubios exact words#4

It is quite clear that his stated observations relate to promoting this amnesty was trying to convince the Rush listener that the same will happen with illegals after his amnesty plan passes(if it does) , which is preposterous.

He clearly didn't say “ Of course the same might not work with the undocumented under my bill as it did with LEGAL immigrants so if it passes into law we better pray that history doesn't repeat itself

Because that would have defeated the dishonest point he was trying to make. In fact O has been repeating "America was built by immigrants' for the same dishonest purpose.

I still appreciate you pointing it out, good catch and helped me with my point.

Well, yes, there are two things at play here, and while you remain more convinced of his ill intentions than I, we may “hear” things differently, but honestly differently.

First, there is the sheer political question: how do Republicans get more Hispanic votes? I heard Rubio’s “open businesses” comment purely in those terms, which is good, meaning that he is not advocating amnesty as a way to pander for votes, which is what the Jeb Bush Joe Scarborough types are saying.

NOW, is he really hoping to get amnesty down the road? That’s a different question, and one where you have a solid opinion, and one where I’m more wait and see.

As for this issue, I’m with Rush and others: til we secure the border, nothing else matters period. It’s like surgery, til you stop the bleeing in triage, it really doesnt’ matter what other discussions are going on involving recovery of the patient. If we secure the border first, then second stop the government hand outs - this problem would take care of itself in 5 years. By 3 years, it would be noticeably better. And in the meanitme, citizens would not suffer a disruption to the economy and way of life, which legit citizens sure would under some other scenarios. This problem is 60 years in the making, there is not fantasy cure in short term. I mean, wish there was, but there isn’t.
