Rybak To Talk With City Suppliers Of Guns And Ammo

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The mayor of Minneapolis wants to reduce gun violence in the city and he’s taking a new approach.

During Wednesday’s city council meeting Mayor R.T. Rybak said he’s going to closely examine where the city purchases its guns and ammunition.

“We buy a lot of guns and ammunition, we should really question whether the companies that we are buying from are going to Washington and are working with us or fighting against us,” he said.

Rybak says he wants to begin a constructive dialogue with companies they buy from and see if they would like to be partners with the city in reducing gun violence in the community.

“We believe that’s’ a value they should share,” the mayor said.

Since 2008, Minneapolis has spent $593,000 on ammunition and $193,000 on guns. The handguns primarily purchased are Smith and Wesson M&P. The shotguns purchased are Remington 870s.

If Minneapolis Police officers purchase their own guns, they receive a stipend of around $800 a year.

Ammunition is where most of the money is spent, and it’s purchased from two local companies: Streicher’s Police Equipment in Plymouth and Federal Cartridge Company in Anoka.

“We do restrict our sales to only approved personnel, such as law enforcement, military or public safety personnel,” said a Striecher’s employee and wanted to remain anonymous.

Rybak is not the only mayor taking this approach on gun safety. He says 60 other Democrat mayors across the county are doing the same.

“We’ve been asked by the people of Minneapolis to make this a safer city,” Rybak said. “I don’t believe the city of Minneapolis would like their dollars to be sent to companies that are fighting with us on that.”

Minneapolis Deputy Chief Travis Glampe says that at this point he’s eager to hear what the companies are going to say.

“We’ve been dealing with these companies for a long time,” Glampe said.

WCCO Radio also placed a phone call to Federal Cartridge in Anoka. They have yet to return the call.

In a perfect world, G&A suppliers would tripple their prices or cut the city off.

F him! Every gun manufacturer in America should immediately stop selling firearms and ammunition to any city employee from Minneapolis. Starve the police!

Hey Mayor Dumbass...where you been all these years? Did it take cues from your masters to start speaking out against crime and violence?

Or is this just a political stunt? If you really cared you wouldn’t have waited this long. Just follow your Leaders as a good lemming should.

Boy, how dumb am I? For a second there I thought he meant by “working for us” he meant “allowing” us peons to buy similar weapons from S&W. What is wrong with these clowns? (rhetorical question) To bad the major gun manufacturers depend on these contracts for so much of their business. I would LOVE to be able to tell these idiots (no offense intended to idiots) to pound sand.

As to ram eeemanual, The coercion continues. Would someone PLEASE open the “2nd Amendment Bank and Trust”! so that so all firearms sellers can deal with only them and screw BOA and any other financial outfit that tries to deny them service.

This dumb dumb is smart enough not to run for re-election. Sadly this gives the GOPe a chance to screw it up and gives Mayor dumb dumb “more flexibility”

Somebody here on FR said in the first thread of Rahm Emanuel going thug on the gun manufacturers that it was certainly coordinated with Obama. Now we see another big-city mayor jumping on the bandwagon. The only question is whether he’s a copycat or if he was in on it from the start, but I say it doesn’t matter.

I’m looking for this to go coast to coast within a few days as the roll is called for all big-city liberal mayors to similarly weigh in.

I guess we'll know how serious the manufacturers and wholesalers are about the 2nd Amendment when they stop doing business with retailers like this.

In all seriousness, isn't this almost word for word the classic backroom "protection" pitch we've seen in mobster movies and RICO trial testimony for decades?

Bringing out the ole Clinton trick. He tried to get the Governor’s of all the States to just buy from certain companies also. There is a letter from Mike Hucklebee Governor of Arkansas on the web that was a good smack down. They are up to their old tricks. Ruger at the time supported the old Assualt Weapon ban and they payed dearly with decreased sales.

If the police administrators had a clue- they would realize we are the good guys. We can help in a bad situation.

Rural sheriffs for the most part get that.

Don’t set the Patriots up as enemies; we could be your best friends if you don’t jack us over.

We want social order and stability, but not at the expense of Freedom. There is some common middle ground at the state and local level.

Why not just use the Constitution instead, and require all Payments from Government to be made in Gold and Silver Coin?? Article 1 section 10 “ No State Shall make anything but Gold and Silver Coin a Tender in payment of Debts”

OK, Mayor R.T. Rybak, if you want to intimidate the suppliers to your police force, how about this? All the manufacturers refuse to sell the city of Minneapolis employees any guns, ammunition, spare parts, or training. We shall see how things work out for you dumbo, because it will certainly reduce police gun violence.

Another thought comes to mind: all the gun manufacturers and ammunition manufacturers are currently buried by customer demand for anything that goes “bang!”. Now is the time to tell these Donkey mayors to pound sand and put them at the end of the waiting line for anything in the way of orders. Tell them, it is a first come, first served market and you’ll have to take your turn like everyone else. This is especially true for gun grabbers. If you don’t like the way we do business, order your guns, ammo, spare parts, and training from the Violence Policy Center.

You have articulated the answer I’ve been waiting to hear. Put these asshat mayors on notice and at the back of a line that has no end. Close their accounts and tell them to go buy their ammo at a gun show, of course with a six box limit per customer, or try reloading. I find it very therapeutic and relaxing. Not to mention extremely accurate.
